Vasquez boys soc­cer wins in first round

AC­TON — The Vasquez boys soc­cer team de­feated Ojai Val­ley 2-0 in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 7 first-round match on Wedne­day at Vasquez High.

Vasquez (15-3-2) fin­ished sec­ond in the Her­itage League and scored one goal in each half.

Vis­ta­mar 5, Desert Chris­tian 0

EL SEGUNDO — The Desert Chris­tian boys soc­cer team lost to Vis­ta­mar 5-0 on Wed­nes­day in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 7 first-round match.

Desert Chris­tian (8-8-2) fin­ished third in the Her­itage League.

Pasadena 3, East­side 0

PASADENA — The East­side boys soc­cer team lost to Pasadena 3-0 in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 4 firstround game on Wed­nes­day at Pasadena High.

East­side (9-6-5) fin­ished third in the Golden League.

Bald­win Park 1, Quartz Hill 0

BALD­WIN PARK — The Quartz Hill boys soc­cer team lost at Bald­win Park 1-0 in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 5 first-round match on Wed­nes­day.

Quartz Hill (10-6-2) fin­ished sec­ond in the Golden League.

Boys Basketball East­side 66, Cate 53

CARPINTERI­A — The East­side boys basketball team de­feated Cate 66-53 on Wed­nes­day in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 4A first-round game.

Cate was the No. 11 team in the divi­sion and East­side (13-12) was the fourth-place team in the Golden League.

Ox­nard 96, High­land 52

OX­NARD — The High­land boys basketball team lost at Ox­nard 96-52 in a CIF-South­ern Sec­tion Divi­sion 2A first-round game on Wed­nes­day.

Ox­nard, the No. 2 seed, jumped out to a 29-14 lead in the first quar­ter against High­land (6-13), the third­place team in the Golden League.

Men’s Basketball AVC 77, Bak­ers­field 74

BAK­ERS­FIELD — The An­te­lope Val­ley Col­lege men’s basketball team ral­lied from a dou­ble-digit deficit to de­feat Bak­ers­field Col­lege 77-74 on Wed­nes­day at Bak­ers­field.

The Ma­raud­ers (11-14, 6-5) trailed by 15 points in the first half and took the lead with ap­prox­i­mately three min­utes re­main­ing in the game.

“It was back and forth,” AVC coach John Tay­lor said.

The Ma­raud­ers had ev­ery starter score in dou­ble fig­ures, led by start­ing point guard Habib Aro­gun­dade, who had 18 points, three as­sists and three re­bounds.

Da’Jour Lewis, Tyriq Perry, Justin Hill and Mekhi Smith all scored 10 points apiece. Hill also fin­ished with nine re­bounds.

Bak­ers­field got a shot to tie the game at the end, but missed and an AVC player se­cured the re­bound.

AVC will host Glendale on Satur­day at 7 p.m.

Women’s basketball AVC 73, Bak­ers­field 66

BAK­ERS­FIELD — The An­te­lope Val­ley Col­lege women’s basketball team ral­lied for a con­fer­ence vic­tory at Bak­ers­field Col­lege, 73-66 on Wed­nes­day.

The Ma­raud­ers (14-11, 9-2) trailed for most of the game be­fore tak­ing a lead mid­way through the fourth quar­ter.

AVC re­mains in sec­ond place in the West­ern State Con­fer­ence South Divi­sion.

Kianna Cross led the Ma­raud­ers with 21 points, Niyah Page fin­ished with a dou­ble-dou­ble, 12 re­bounds and 14 points and Malaiya Pat­ton had 11 points.

“We played be­hind most of the first three quar­ters,” AVC coach Barry Green said. “We man­aged to tie the game and take the lead in the last five min­utes.”

The Ma­raud­ers scored 30 points in the fourth quar­ter.

AVC will host first-place Glendale (10-1) on Satur­day for a 5 p.m. game.
