Court, legal officials set to conduct ‘Justice Jog’

- VALLEY PRESS STAFF REPORT

LOS ANGELES — The Court Appointed Special Advocates of Los Angeles is again partnering with the Greater Los Angeles Association of Legal Administrators for their annual “Justice Jog” event starting today.

This year’s event comes with a twist and will be a virtual “QuaRUNtine” five-kilometer or 10K run aims to raise $100,000 for children in Los Angeles’ child welfare system.

“We’re all finding ways to cope with our current state and the challenges it brings,”

CASA/LA CEO Wende Julien said. “The Justice Jog QuaRUNtine is something unique and fun, that the entire family can take part in while helping children in foster care in LA County.”

CASA/LA is a nonprofit organization, which advocates on behalf of children in the child welfare system of Los Angeles County who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Volunteers deal with a range of challenges that impact the lives of Los Angeles’ 30,000-plus children in the dependency court system.

The Justice Jog QuaRUNtine event is open to individuals, groups and teams. Sponsorships are also available.

Participants will have 30 days to complete their 5K or 10K challenge. Anyone can sign up in those 30 days, which end Sept. 26.

Competitive participants will be required to track their activity, be it running or walking outdoors, cycling, working out on an elliptical or Peloton, swimming, rowing, etc., and submit a screenshot from a tracking app to qualify their time. This is not required for casual participants.

Each participant will receive a runner’s kit with a shirt, water bottle, snacks and finisher’s medal.

Prizes will be issued for fastest times, most unusual outfit, most unique route/locations, and most money raised.

There will be high social media interaction from the CASA/LA and GLA ALA teams to encourage interaction and sharing of fun pictures, locations, and more to raise awareness for the cause.

“Children in the dependency system are more adversely affected by COVID-19 shutdowns of services, schooling, medical access and other vital programs,” Julien said. “These funds go a long way in helping us make sure they aren’t forgotten, and receive the support they need.”

The virtual Justice Jog QuaRUNtine 5K/10K fundraiser can be followed on Twitter (@CASAofLA), Instagram (@CASA.LA) and Facebook (CASA of Los Angeles — Court Appointed Special Advocates).
