Residents can secure mortgage assistance

- By RAYMOND GARCIA

PALMDALE — City residents will be able to apply to a program that will provide emergency assistance for low- and moderate-income individuals and families economically impacted by COVID-19.

Applications for a Mortgage Assistance Program will be accepted starting Monday through Sept. 10. Eligible individuals will be assisted on a first-come, first-qualified basis until all program funds are depleted, according to the City of Palmdale’s website.

The City will utilize a portion of its Community Development Block Grant to implement the program. The program will provide grants up to $6,000 for those accepted that have lost their jobs, been furloughed, or seen a reduction in hours or pay.

The City will pay up to a maximum of 100% of the monthly mortgage payment for up to six consecutive months. All or a portion of assistance can be used to pay back mortgage amounts. All payments will be made directly to the entity servicing the mortgage by the City on behalf of the program’s recipients.

To apply, applicants must have their primary residence located within the incorporated limits of the City and have a current mortgage agreement for a housing unit located in the City.

Applicants must also have a current annual family income that does not exceed the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s established moderate-income limits for Los Angeles County. For example, a family size

of four must not exceed an 80% median income of $90,100.

Individuals and families that are currently participating in any Publicly Assisted Housing program (i.e. Section 8 Housing) are ineligible for the program.
