-

Slim is a two-year old, fawn, altered, male Pitbull that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center, on Nov. 11. When he was being examined, Slim showed nervousness and was not allowing handling. The medical staff was able to eventually examine him. During his time in the play yard, Slim had a gentle and dainty play style, social and non-reactive around other dogs, but still need some animal handling and socialization. Slim stood at the kennel gate as the runner approached. He displayed concerned eyes. The handler knelt down and verbally reassured him. He then relaxed. When the handler opened the kennel gate, he retreated to the back of the kennel. When the handler entered and presented the loop leash, Slim dodged it a few times, before the runner was able to loop leash him. He exited the kennel willingly and walked to the play yard slowly behind the runner, requiring verbal coaxing. He entered the catch pen with a low tail, soft eyes and a low body. Slim exchanged soft greetings with the other dogs through the play yard fence. He was timid while collared by the runner, but remained tolerant. He approached both a male Mastiff and a female Shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting, with her. After this, he roamed the yard and explored his surroundings. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He approached a female Shepherd and offered her a play bow. He remained playful and social for the rest of his time in the yard. He engaged in gentle/dainty play with multiple dogs. Slim is recommended to a home with middle school-aged children. He also gets along with large dogs. To meet Slim, visit the center during its public hours of 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., daily, and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
