Animal ID No.: A5543831 Animal name: Midnight

-

Midnight is a one-year-old, black, altered, male Labrador Retriever mix that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray. He readily approached his animal handler, allowing examination and handling with no problem. Midnight was social and non-reactive around other dogs and was easy to leash in and out of his kennel. The handler opened the gate and he attempted to door dash, but the runner was able to place his loop leash over his head. Once leashed, Midnight walked beside his handler with no pull while in the building. Once outside, he walked with a light-to-moderate pull on the leash. The handler called Midnight over and placed a collar on him. As the handler’s hands were lingering around his head, he excitedly pawed at the handler’s chest while becoming mouthy with his hands. The handler had to verbally coax Midnight in order to get him off.

When he entered the yard, he was approached by a male Shepherd and became tense. Midnight tolerated him sniffing his body but was uncomfortable with him lingering around him. He broke away and created space from the group. When Midnight explored the yard, he was met by a high-energy Shepherd. She stopped and allowed him to sniff her body but became tense when he lingered around her face. Without warning, Midnight took two steps forward and bit the Shepherd’s muzzle. The handler was able to steer him away using a large shaker. Midnight was then taken from the yard due to the overcorrection. A play style was not displayed. He is required to be in a home with middle school-aged children and calm dogs. Midnight is available with a health waiver. To meet and interact with him, visit the center during its public hours of 2 to 5 p.m., daily and 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
