Quartz Hill girls golf goes 3-0 in 18 holes

PALMDALE — The Quartz Hill girls golf team shot a team score of 474 to defeat Highland (603), Antelope Valley and Littlerock in 18 holes on Tuesday at Rancho Vista Golf Club.

Antelope Valley and Littlerock did not field full teams.

Quartz Hill’s Sabrina Redifer led all golfers with an 87, while teammates Alyssa Castellano­s and Rylin Raposas each shot 90, Lauren Meyers picked up a 103, Rylee Christense­n shot 104 and Ryelyn Arrellano shot 110, which was dropped for the team score.

Mia Romero led the Bulldogs with 113, followed by teammates Danica Zamora (115), Analisa Memory (117), Makayla Lam (120), Emma Gutierrez (138) and Wanda Perez (140), whose score was dropped.

Highland next competes against Eastside, Littlerock and Palmdale on Oct. 3 in 18 holes at Antelope Valley Country Club.

Quartz Hill takes on Lancaster, Knight and Antelope Valley on Oct. 5 at AVCC.

Girls Tennis Quartz Hill 15, Knight 3

QUARTZ HILL — The Quartz Hill girls tennis team defeated Knight 15-3 in a Golden League match on Tuesday.

“Perfect weather and a really great match,” Quartz Hill coach Liz Litchfield said. “There were some very close matches, lots of second deuce points. It was awesome that Knight came with a large JV team.”

Chela Nilo swept her three sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for the Royals, while No. 2 Lei Brillantes won two sets, 6-2, 6-0 and No. 3 Mia Hernandez won two 6-0 sets.

Quartz Hill’s No. 1 doubles team of Kasey Faulk and Calle Beguhl stayed undefeated in league play with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 sweep.

The Royals’ No. 2 team of Katie Lindsay and Aleena Smith also swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, while the No. 3 team of Sukhmani Brar and Michele Zepeda won a 6-1 set before Brar teamed up with Leonie Schneider for a 6-0 win.

Knight’s No. 1 singles player Caroline Given won two sets, 7-5 and 6-0, and the No. 1 doubles team of Grace Contreras and Katelyn Harrington won a 6-2 set.

“Both Knight No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles challenged all of our QH teams and will be top contenders in league,” Litchfield said.

Quartz Hill hosts Littlerock on Thursday, while Knight plays Eastside at AV High.

Lancaster 13, Littlerock 5

PALMDALE — The Lancaster girls tennis team started with six forfeit wins from Littlerock and went on to win 13-5 in a Golden League match on Tuesday at Palmdale High.

The Lobos were missing a No. 3 singles player and No. 3 doubles team, forfeiting those six sets.

Lancaster’s No. 1 doubles team of Amy Park and Sara Stringfiel­d won their two sets 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Belen Rodriguez and Jackie Obregon won 6-0, 6-4 and the No. 3 duo of Lana Jouret and Jantin Asmir won a 6-0 set.

Lancaster’s No. 1 singles player Cleo Wang won two 6-0 sets.

Littlerock picked up four sets in singles and one in doubles.

Ashley Antonio won two sets, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Lobos, while Erin Bixel won two sets, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Littlerock’s No. 2 doubles team of sisters Raulaya and Raunae Moringlane won a 6-4 set.

Highland 18, Eastside 0

LANCASTER — The Highland girls tennis team defeated a very short-handed Eastside 18-0 in a Golden League match on Tuesday at AVC.

The Lions had just two singles players, so Highland’s three singles players each played two matches and all of the other sets were forfeits.

Isabel Ortiz, Ariana Valiente and Maggie Castellano­s each won their sets 6-0, 6-1 for the Bulldogs.

Highland plays at Palmdale on Thursday, while Eastside plays Knight at AV High.

Girls Volleyball Kern Valley 3, Cal City 1

LAKE ISABELLA — The California City girls volleyball team had a letdown in its fourth straight High Desert League road game with a 25-18, 25-19, 13-25, 25-20 loss to Kern Valley on Tuesday.

The Ravens (12-7, 4-2 HDL) were plagued with errors during the loss, which dropped them from second to fourth place in the league standings.

Ceci Foster led Cal City with 10 kills and four blocks, while Moon Boyd added nine kills and four blocks.

The Ravens return home on Thursday to play Boron.
