Littlerock beats Highland with 3rd straight league SO

PALMDALE — The Littlerock boys soccer team posted its third straight clean sheet to start Golden League play with a 3-0 victory over Highland on Wednesday at Highland High.

Adrian Villafranc­o scored two goals for the Lobos, while Israel Aguilar also scored a goal, Joaquin Garcia added two assists and Adrian Mota recorded one assist.

Villafranc­o put the Lobos (4-0-1, 3-0 GL) on the board in the fifth minute on an assist by Garcia.

The Bulldogs (1-2, 1-2) had a chance to score when Littlerock’s Anthony Contreras was called for a foul and given a yellow card. Highland was awarded a penalty kick, but Littlerock goalkeeper Nelson Flores made his first PK save of the season. Flores had four saves in the game.

Aguilar scored the second goal in the first half on another assist by Garcia and the Lobos led 2-0 at halftime.

Villafranc­o picked up his second goal of the game in the 70th minute on an assist from Mota.

“Overall, very happy with the outcome,” Littlerock co-coach Gloria Meza said. “We will continue to work on improving our game and look forward to hosting Palmdale on Friday.”

Both Littlerock and Palmdale are both undefeated in league play as Palmdale is 2-0-1, and meet on Friday at Littlerock High.

Highland hosts Antelope Valley on Friday.

Boys Basketball Paraclete 70, Taft 37

BAKERSFIEL­D — The Paraclete boys basketball team improved to 8-0 after a 70-37 victory over Taft on Wednesday in the first round of the North Bakersfiel­d Tournament.

DJ Phillips led the Spirits with 19 points and Mister Burnside followed with 18 points.

Paraclete’s Ryan Brown put in 11 points, including three, rare 3-pointers. He also took two charges on defense.

The Spirits play the winner of Wednesday’s late game between Ridgeview and Mira Monte today in the second round of the tournament.
