Highland edges Lancaster, keeps lead in girls soccer

-

LANCASTER — The Highland girls soccer team remained undefeated in Golden League play after defeating Lancaster, 2-1, on Tuesday at Lancaster High.

After a deadlocked first half, Highland coach Barbara Vivas changed to a more offensive lineup, which led to freshman Maddie Cole scoring the game’s first goal, assisted by freshman Sophie Garcia.

Lancaster tied the game up by scoring off of a corner kick with about 15 minutes left in the game.

Highland, however, answered right back with Sam Lopez feeding the ball to senior Jasmyne Stewart who scored the game-winning goal.

The Bulldogs (5-2-1, 5-0 GL) will play host to the league’s other undefeated team, Quartz Hill, on Thursday.

The Eagles (2-3-1, 2-3) play host to Palmdale on Thursday.
