Lancaster girls basketball tops Palmdale

-

LANCASTER — The Lancaster girls basketball team defeated Palmdale 66-17 on Thursday in a Golden League home game.

The Eagles lost to Highland on Tuesday, but were awarded a forfeit win as the Bulldogs found out during the game that one of their starters was suspended and were forced to forfeit. The suspension stemmed from a fight with Antelope Valley on Dec. 7. It is unknown if the Antelopes have had any players suspended.

Brianna SaMarion led the Eagles (8-3, 4-2 GL) with 18 points.

“Bri, like I said, we’ll only go as far as she can take us,” Lancaster coach Eric Price said.

Lancaster freshman Hayden Tolbert scored 15 points and fellow freshman Alexis Castillo added 12 points.

“I’m every excited about our freshmen getting some extra playing time,” Price said. “They are our future. So I was very impressed with them.”

Jacquelline Guevara scored 14 of Palmdale’s 17 points, Cynthia Jones scored two and Molly Diaz added one point.

The Eagles have a home game against Stockton on Saturday and return to Golden League play on Monday at Littlerock.

The Falcons (2-6, 1-5) play at Antelope Valley on Monday.
