-

Animal ID No.: A5438878 Animal name: Marci

Marci is a six-year-old, black and tan, spayed German shepherd that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray. She was found on the east side of Palmdale. She had a microchip, but no owner came forward for her. She was raised with her brother Gunner, who has been adopted already. Marci has a great, sweet nature about her. She readily comes up to seek attention and allows handling. She will work for treats. She knows “sit” and how to catch. She does get a little excited at first when the treats are brought out, but eventually calms. She cannot get enough pets and will sit patiently while getting attention. During her behavior assessment, Marci was standing at the gate with soft eyes, alert ears, and a low tail wag. The runner presented the leash and was able to loop leash her. She walked nicely to the catch pen, walking next to the runner without pulling. Marci entered the play yard and was approached by the other dogs. She sat down near the exit with a tense body and concerned eyes watching the other dogs. She began to explore the yard, keeping distance from them. She then approached a handler for affection and sat down next to him. She remained there until a young female pit bull approached her. She gave a lip curl, warning for space, and retreated behind the handler to sit down. She remained around to the handler for the remainder of her stay in the yard. She appeared more comfortable sitting next to a handler for affection than interacting with the other dogs. Marci can be viewed at the center during its open hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

When the kennel attendant arrived at his cage, he was standing at the gate with soft eyes, a relaxed body and a neutral tail wag. The runner opened the gate and placed the leash on him. He entered the pen and walked up to the play yard fence. When he entered the yard, he walked up to a male lab. He was relaxed with soft eyes as they greeted each other. A female Doberman playfully came up and licked his face repeatedly. He was tolerant of her energy, remaining relaxed. He then roamed the yard for a few minutes. He walked back up to the female Doberman, and they sniffed each other once again before separating. He was also relaxed as he solicited affection from the handlers.
