MILLEN, Sharon R.
Born Nov. 18, 1943 in Watonga, Oklahoma, died Dec. 15, 2023 after a long battle with frontotemporal dementia. Sharon was the second of three children born to Ted and Marjorie Eberhardt. She grew up in Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She moved to California in 1965.
Sharon was a teacher and principal for almost forty years. She taught at Sage in Palmdale, earned a Master’s degree at Pepperdine University then served as principal in Castaic, Keppel, and Saugus school districts. She served in many positions of leadership at State and Regional levels for Association of California School Administrators. She was described as a force of nature who worked relentlessly on behalf of children. In 1995 she was recognized as Calif. Elementary Principal of the Year.
Sharon lived life to the fullest and had many passions including travel, fitness, reading, hiking, Mammoth. She was an active member of United Methodist Church. Above all, she valued relationships and people. Time with friends and family were foremost in her life. She retired early to care for her beloved husband David Millen, who died from ALS in 2004. She is survived by brother Theo (Jan) Eberhardt, sister Judy (Don) Renner; children Vicky (Michael) Vogel, Sandy Kaye, Stan (Michelle) McClung, Christy (Thane) Hertsch, Katy (Andrew) Smith, Carrie (Ron) Juckno; grandchildren Jordan (Kristie) Vogel, Natalie (Anthony) Lat, Steven (Alla) Atwood, Garett (Kiley) Taylor, Brooke (Matt) Taylor, Cole and Corey McClung, Kyle, Connor, Makenna Hertsch, Madison, Emily, Brooklyn Smith, David and Thomas Juckno; great grandchildren Mila, Noah, Brooklynn, James. Sharon Millen Memorial Scholarship has been established at Antelope Valley College as an honor and inspiration. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Lancaster United Methodist Church.
