Knight boys soccer knocks off No. 1 Pasadena
PASADENA — The Knight boys soccer team fought for two halves and two overtime periods, finally scoring with two minutes left in the second overtime to knock off No. 1-seeded Pasadena in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs on Wednesday.
Knight’s Joseph Rodriguez received a perfect pass from teammate Ethan Maldonado and went one-on-one with the Pasadena goalkeeper. Rodriguez dribbled the ball around and scored past the keeper for the golden goal.
Freshman Elmer Arriaga played in goal for the Hawks after being brought up from the junior varsity team.
“(He) played every minute of the game and made three beautiful saves to keep the shutout,” Knight coach Juan Paolo said.
The Hawks snapped Pasadena’s 13-game winning streak. Knight will host Dunn, a 3-1 winner over Diamond Bar on Wednesday, in the second round on Friday.
