Quartz Hill baseball defeats Littlerock in six innings

LITTLEROCK — The Quartz Hill baseball team defeated Littlerock 14-2 in a six-inning Golden League game at Littlerock High on Wednesday.

Quartz Hill improves to 16-3 overall and 6-1 in league.

The Royals broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the fourth and seven runs in the sixth.

Quartz Hill senior Isaac Quintero was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, senior Beau Karrer was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs and senior Jeffrey Kavanagh finished 1-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Quartz Hill junior pitcher Chris Lozano struck out six in five innings, giving up one walk.

Quartz Hill outhit Littlerock 11-5 and both teams committed one error.

Quartz Hill travels to Highland today in a makeup game. The Royals won the first matchup 4-0 on March 8.

Highland 15, Antelope Valley 2 (5)

PALMDALE — The Highland base- ball team beat Antelope Valley 15-2 in a five-inning Golden League on Wednesday at Highland High School.

Highland improves to 15-4 overall and 7-1 in league.

Highland senior Caesar Casas led the Bulldogs’ offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored, sophomore Cole Studt was 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs and four RBIs, senior Will Paxton was 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and an RBI, Kaiden Peterson finished 1-for-1 with a triple, a run and an RBI, senior Jacob Badillo was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI, senior Carlos Toro was 1-for-2 with a run, junior Patrick Diehl was 1-for-1 and senior Caleb Montemayor drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and walked twice.

Highland junior pitcher Bradley King struck out five in four innings to get the win, giving up two runs on one hit and six walks. Peterson threw one scoreless inning of relief, striking out one and did not give up a hit.

Antelope Valley senior Jose Garcia finished 1-for-2 with a walk.

Highland hosts Quartz Hill today, to complete their two-game series originally scheduled a month ago, but the second game was rained out.

Boys Tennis Knight 14, Palmdale 4

PALMDALE — The Knight boys tennis team defeated short-handed Palmdale 14-4 in a Golden League match on Monday at Palmdale High.

The Falcons were missing a No. 3 singles player and had to forfeit those three sets.

The Hawks won 8 of 9 doubles sets with Wayne Jarvis and Angel Aguilar leading the way at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 sweep.

No. 2 David Garcia and Kevin Fuentes also picked up a 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 sweep for Knight.

“Wayne Jarvis and Angel Aguilar continue to improve their team play in doubles and swept their sets,” Knight coach James Jutila said. “David Garcia and Kevin Fuentes were also able to complete a sweep.”

The Hawks’ No. 3 doubles team of Joseph Adams and Omar Miranda won two sets, 6-3 and 6-2.

In singles, Knight’s No. 1 Ethan Chavez picked up two wins to add to his forfeit victory. He won his first set 6-2 and battled for a 7-6 (6) win in his second seat.

The tiebreak win was the only loss for Palmdale’s No. 2 singles player Fernando, who posted two wins, 6-2 and 6-4.

“In singles, Fernando of the Falcons played really solid tennis, almost sweeping the Hawks singles players,” Jutila said. “Ethan Chavez was able to break the streak with a seesaw set, ending with a seesaw tiebreak.”

Aldonn Duero won two sets, 6-4 and 6-0 (forfeit) at No. 2 singles for the Hawks and No. 3 Daniel Fragosa benefitted from the 6-0 forfeit victory.

Palmdale’s Omar won a 6-3 set at No.1 singles, while the Falcons’ No. 2 doubles team of Alex and Miguel won a 6-2 set.
