Martha “Marty” Elizabeth Munney
February 3, 1940 - March 25, 2024
Longtime Palmdale resident and business owner, Martha “Marty” Elizabeth Munney, passed away on March 25, 2024 at the age of 84, after suffering complications following heart surgery.
Marty was born on February 3, 1940 in San Diego, CA to Marie Anna and Parke Taylor Pope. She was an only child. Marty married Wayne Robert Munney on August 11, 1961. Together, they had three children; Wayne Jr, Dawn and Jamie.
After their first child, Wayne Jr. was born in 1962, they moved to Palmdale. Their second child, Dawn, was born in 1964. Marty then went to work for Lockheed in Aircraft Delivery in 1967. After having worked there for 10 years, they decided for her to not return to work when their last child, Jamie, was born in 1977. In 1978, they started their own business, Palmdale Trophy; where she continued working full time until a few weeks before her death. For 46 years, you could find her answering the phone, helping customers, operating engraving and several multi-head computerized embroidery machines at the same time. She was meticulously detailed and a perfectionist. Marty was a workhorse her entire life; rarely missing a day of work and even taking work home with her and going in on her days off; so not to let her customers down. In 2007, she underwent surgery and chemotherapy for uterine cancer and still rarely missed a day of work.
Marty was an avid bowler her entire life and bowled several days a week at various bowling alleys in the Antelope Valley. In fact, she met her husband in a bowling alley in San Diego. Family trips in the station wagon, pulling the travel trailer, usually involved Marty’s participation in one of her many bowling tournaments.
Marty is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Wayne of Palmdale, CA, their son Wayne Jr., and his wife, Jerri of Lancaster, CA, daughters Dawn Ladny of Lake Kiowa, TX and Jamie Munney of Littlerock, CA; grandchildren, Alexander Munney, of San Diego, CA., Mallory Ladny of Austin, TX, Cameron Ladny of Lake Kiowa, TX and Cyrus Bragg of Littlerock, CA.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Legacy Commons Senior Center – 930 E. Ave Q-9, Palmdale, CA 93550 at 12pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
