Operation Finale

-

Based on a true story, 15 years after the end of World War II, a team of Israeli agents travel to South America to track down SS officer Adolf Eichmann. The mastermind of the transportation logistics that moved Jews to concentration camps around Europe is now living in Argentina, under a new identity. Agent Peter Malkin attempts to find a way to trick Eichmann out of the country, in order for him to stand trial for his war crimes.

FIVE FACTS:

1. Before playing the SS officer, Sir Ben Kingsley played three survivors of Adolf Hitler’s Final Solution, in Murderers Among Us (1989), Schindler’s List (1993) and Anne Frank: The Whole Story (2001).

2. Similarly, Mélanie Laurent – who plays Hanna Elian – also played the role of someone hiding her identity while taking revenge against Nazis, in Inglorious Basterds (2009).

3. The movie is based on the book by Mossad Director Isser Harel, The House on Garibaldi Street.

4. The real-life capture of Adolf Eichmann took nearly three years to carry out, from finding out where he lived to taking him to Israel to stand trial.

5. Eichmann was previously played by Robert Duvall in The Man Who Captured Eichmann (1996). Interestingly, this means that Duvall and Kingsley have now both played the same character, in separate movies, twice. Duvall played Doctor Watson in The Seven Per Cent Solution (1996), while Kingsley played Sherlock’s legendary sidekick in Without a Clue (1988).
