ACME to conduct band and orchestra tryouts
RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Center for Music Education will conduct two more tryouts for beginning students for the 2012-13 band and orchestra programs. Auditions will also be conducted for students with previous instrument experience from some place other than the ACME program.
The remaining tryout/auditions are at 6:30 p.m. May 10 and May 21 at ACME’S facility, 2106 E. 16th St. Preregistration is required. Auditioners will need to acquire the audition material in advance. Both programs are open to the general public, including adults.
The band is open to students age 10 through adult. Instruments in the band program are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion.
The orchestra program is open to students ages 9 through adult. Instruments in the orchestra program are violin, viola, cello and double (upright) bass.
At least one parent is required to attend with students 18 and under. The tryouts consist of a brief meeting with students and parents, followed by students being assisted in trying all the instruments of the ensemble in which they wish to participate.
ACME is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 nonprofit taxdeductible community music-education organization providing a variety of music classes for the River Valley area.
