Choice is crook, saint
When comparing President Barack Obama with candidate Mitt Romney, I’m reminded of a statement from a hard-right conservative I knew who compared Jimmy Carter to Richard Nixon. He stated that it is better to have a smart crook for president than a dumb saint. I want to think we have that choice now with Obama being the money-poor dumb saint—although he is rather smart—and Romney being the I-inherited-my-wealth smart crook.
Obama is the saint, wanting to help the underclass with jobs, health care, food and shelter, promoting unholy socialism. Romney is the crook, with Bain Capital profiteering making him richer and sending jobs overseas. In my opinion, he wants to keep the wealth in the hands of the 1percenters. He wants to dominate the world with our military might, helping his wealthy defense-contractor, political-campaigning contributors, promoting holy capitalism that can buy political offices. One believes in environmental regulations. The other believes that profit is more important than saving the Earth. Romney does not seem to pity the poor. He stated they have safety nets, such as soup kitchens, food stamps and hospital emergency rooms for health care, due to his political party making cuts in Medicaid.
Will the real Christian stand up? Will it be a perceived saint or a perceived crook, or do one’s politics determine that perception? RICHARD SNIVELY
