3 watersheds focus of federal effort
The federal Natural Resources Conservation Service will manage an initiative to improve areas in the Bayou Bartholomew watershed in Arkansas, state conservationist Mike Sullivan said Tuesday.
Funds will be made available to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners in the selected watersheds — the Cousart Bayou-little Cypress Bayou, Upper Deep Bayou and Lower Deep Bayou watersheds.
Eligible producers in the three watersheds will invest in voluntary conservation actions to help provide cleaner water for their neighbors and communities.
Using funds from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, technical and financial assistance will be provided to producers to install conservation practices such as cover crops, filter strips and tailwater recovery systems to improve water quality.
More information is available at www.ar.nrcs.usda.gov. All applications for funding consideration during the federal fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, must be received by June 15.
