I’m not sure why no one has thought of it before, but Duncan Hines beat everyone to the punch with its newest innovation, called Frosting Creations. It’s a rather ground-breaking system that combines a specially formulated unflavored frosting base with flavoring packets that give bakers a new box of options.

Frosting Creations come in 12 versions: Cinnamon Roll, Cotton Candy, Chocolate Mint, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Almond, Bubble Gum, Orange Creme, Mocha, Chocolate Marshmallow, White Chocolate Raspberry, Cherry Vanilla and Caramel. All you have to do is grab a can of starter frosting, pour in your choice of flavor and stir.

Look for Frosting Creations on the baking aisle at most major retailers, where the Frosting Starter should cost about $2 and the flavor mixes about $1 each. For information, recipe ideas and how-to videos, go to Duncanhines.com.

Lawry’s has an interesting array of new products made to aid the home cook in mixing up some dinner-time excitement. The products, which should be sold at most major supermarkets, are:

Mediterranean Herb Seasoned Salt, a mixture of Lawry’s Seasoned Salt with herbs and spices;

Fire Roasted Chile & Garlic, a robust blend of chiles, garlic, smoked paprika and salt;

Roasted Garlic Salt, a combination of garlic salt with roasted garlic, oregano and basil;

Santa Fe Chili Marinade, a 30-minute marinade accentuated by a blend of chile pepper, cumin, oregano and a splash of lime juice; and m Mediterranean Herb and White Wine Marinade, a combination of basil, oregano, garlic, sun-dried tomato, white wine and extra-virgin olive oil.

Lawry’s is also hoping to help bring back the family dinner with a “Dinnertising” campaign. It features a digital “advertising agency” where consumers can select a storyline and recipe and make videos that can be shared via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail. For information, go to Dinnertising.com.

I’ve also run across a few new products in the stores that I wanted to tell you about.

If you’re a fan of the 100calorie packs and pretzels, you might want to check out the new Keebler White Fudge Dipped Pretzels. The sweet and salty snack is delicious and a six-count box should sell for about $3.50.

I also tried the new Borden Gouda Natural Slices, which are extremely thin and flavorful, with the buttery taste characteristic of Gouda. The cheese is sold in 6- and 12ounce sizes and costs $3 to $4.

Being a lover of Doritos, I was intrigued by the new Jacked Enchilada Supremeflavored tortilla chips. They’re a bit spicier than I thought they would be, and weren’t as “enchilada” flavored as I had hoped. They sell for about $3 a bag at most stores.
