BREWERS 8, CUBS 2 Shaun Marcum (2-1) pitched seven strong innings and Edwin Maysonet hit his first career grand slam to lead host Milwaukee over Chicago. BRAVES 7, CARDINALS 2 Brandon Beachy (4-1) pitched six innings of one-run ball and helped himself with an RBI single, Michael Bourn added a home run and Atlanta beat host St. Louis. NATIONALS 2, REDS 1 Jordan Zimmermann (2-3) extended Washington’s streak of dominant starts, and Danny Espinosa homered for the second consecutive game, leading the visiting Nationals to a victory over Cincinnati. PADRES 2, PHILLIES 1 Edinson Volquez (2-2) pitched six effective innings, pinch-hitter Jose Guzman drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly and visiting San Diego beat Philadelphia and ace Roy Halladay for the second time this season.
