PEARCY — Something about Garland County brings out the best in Camden Fairview senior Dominique Reed.

Reed had the longest triple jump under any conditions in Arkansas high school history during the 55th annual Meet of Champs on Saturday afternoon at Lake Hamilton High School’s Wolf Stadium.

On his sixth and final attempt, Reed jumped 49 feet,

The jump, however, occurred with a wind speed of 8.3 meters per second, well above the 2.0 allowable to be recognized as an overall record.

Cl i n ton Whitted of Rivercrest set the overall record (48-0) at the 2010 Meet of Champs.

Reed also defended his title in the long jump (23-7 3/4), just a quarter-inch off his spring best.

Lake Hamilton also hosted the 2011 Meet of Champs, and Reed had maybe the best game of his high school football career last fall at nearby Hot Springs Lakeside.

Re e d , an Arkansas Democrat-gazette AllArkansas wide receiver, caught 5 passes for 201 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 30-7 victory.

“I don’t know, I just feel good about coming up here,” said the 6-3, 180-pound Reed, a Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College football signee.
