Young artists show work in Little Rock exhibition

Several young artists from the Tri-lakes Edition coverage area have their work on display in the 51st annual Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.

The exhibition showcases artworks in all media created by students in kindergart­en through the 12th grade in Arkansas. Teachers from 177 schools across the state submitted 667 artworks for considerat­ion. Members of the Arkansas Arts Educators selected 116 artworks for the exhibition. The exhibition will be on view through May 27.

Amanda Linn from the state Department of Education selected the awards for the exhibition. She selected one Best of Class and two Honorable Mention awards for each grade level. Monetary awards, funded by Arkansas Children’s Hospital, are given to support each winner’s arts program.

The following Tri-lakes students have works in the show:

• Benton High School: 12th-grader Amy Ward, with a pen and ink drawing, Elephant.

• Bryant Elementary School: A third-grade group project, The Great Wall of Nevelson, a mixed media piece, which won an Honorable Mention for artists Qutaiba Abbood, James Balch, Nicole Ball, Mya Blake, Rachel Buck, Mattie Calhoun, Makayla Chandler, Hope Coffman, Gage Escoffery, Jake Fannon, Jordan Faulkner, Andrew Gaspard, Caleb Goines, Ty Griffin, Brittney Jennings, Austin Ledbetter, Angela Martinez, Haley Maxwell, Mackenzie Moore, Cora Perry, Lauryn Taylor, Ben Weaver, Abigail Weihe and Kaitlyn Weng; and fourth-grader Elaine Qualls, with a crayon piece, These Boots Are Made for Walking.

• Bryant Middle School: Seventh-grader Levyn Lewis, with an ebony pencil drawing, Self-portrait.

• Dianne Roberts Art Studio and Gallery, Benton: Eighthgrad­er Christian Tiffin, with a pencil drawing, High Tea; and ninth-grader Carrie Hill, with a scratchboa­rd piece, Just Drifting Away.

• Hot Springs High School: 10th-grader Bryttani Taylor Bartlett, with a photograph, Form and Value, which won an Honorable Mention award; and 11th-grader Marcus William Menefee, with a photograph, Hooded, which won a Best of Class award.

• Lake Hamilton Elementary School: Third-grader Dylan Vice, with a watercolor, Sumi-e Plants.

• Lakeside High School: 12th-grader Veronica Vest, with a mixed media work, “Cole” Water, which won a Best of Class award.

• Perritt and Central Primary School, Arkadelphi­a: 10th-grader Octavio Javier Saldana, with an ink and watercolor, My Hands in Front of Me.

• Smithzonia­n Art Center, Arkadelphi­a: Sixth-grader Elizabeth Delaney Adair, with a mixed media piece, Me, Myself and My MP3.

The Arkansas Arts Center is at 501 E. Ninth St. in Little Rock.

There is no admission charge. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Mondays and major holidays.
