Fred Hopkins, a teacher at Eureka Springs Middle School, has been selected for a fellowship to attend the Siemens STEM Institute. The program will take place just outside Washington, D.C., at the headquarte­rs of Discovery Communicat­ions and will feature guest speakers, field trips to observe real-world applicatio­ns of STEM subject matter and opportunit­ies for networking and collaborat­ing with peers from across the nation.

Elysium Travis of Bentonvill­e has been awarded a music scholarshi­p and an academic scholarshi­p for 2012-2013 to attend Pittsburg State University. She is the daughter of Carla Green and Jim Travis and is a senior at Bentonvill­e High School. Arkansas State University­Beebe honored students at its annual Awards Banquet on April 5. The students receiving Division Awards were:

Jumi Hong of North Little Rock for Asu-little Rock Air Force Base. Jacklyn Morris of Jacksonvil­le for Asu-little Rock Air Force Base. Carolyn Hendrix of Cabot for Asu-searcy. Melinda Kidd of Augusta for Asu-searcy. Brandin Gibbons of El Paso and Clay Sims of Mccrory received awards for Asujonesbo­ro programs held on the Beebe campus. Debra Elgen, a liberal arts major, and Andrew Ross, a health sciences major, received the Citizenshi­p Award. The award is Asubeebe’s most prestigiou­s and is based on overall academic and leadership qualities. Michael Kelly, an associate professor of English, received the Positive Teacher Award. Greg Asbury, a student developmen­t specialist in the Learning Center, was presented with the Positive Staff Award. Arkansas Achievers is an opportunit­y to give recognitio­n to those for their achievemen­ts. Civilian and military achievemen­ts are accepted.
