100 YEARS AGO Nov. 4, 1912 FORT SMITH — Sam Lockeridge, who says he is a deputy sheriff of Lavaca, Ark., nearly started a riot in the Sebastian county jail yesterday morning when the officers informed him that he had been married the night before. “No such a d— thing,” howled Lockeridge when the officers broke the news to him that he was a benedict and reminded him that married men should not act as he had done the night before. He had been arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. The officers have thus far been unable to locate the bride whose husband didn’t know he was married.

50 YEARS AGO Nov. 4, 1962 MORRILTON — School and law enforcement officials have joined ministers in an appeal here to parents to restrict the use of automobiles and motor scooters by students. School officials claim that students using automobiles during the week show up with poor grades. They have found that cars and motor scooters take far too much time away from studies.

25 YEARS AGO Nov. 4, 1987 Questions raised Tuesday by a panel of federal judges made it appear that the student assignment plan used in the Pulaski County Special School District might be rejected and returned to U.S. District Judge Henry Woods for revisions. Three members of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals met in Little Rock to decide whether Woods should be removed from the countywide school desegregation case and whether the Pulaski County district’s student assignment plan meets racial ratio guidelines.

10 YEARS AGO Nov. 4, 2002 Goodrich Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., had its second change of heart in a year Tuesday, announcing it indeed will close its manufacturing plant in Arkadelphia. Gov. Mike Huckabee and Clark County officials jubilantly announced in April that Goodrich would keep its Aerostructures and Aviation Technical Services plant open, after the company announced last December it would lay off 180 workers. Tuesday, however, Goodrich said it will close the plant, which now has 92 employees, in the first half of next year.
