OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Wanda G. Strickland, 89, of Overland Park, Kan. passed away Jan. 6, 2013. A visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9th beginning at 12 noon at Lenexa United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. also at the church. A reception will be held after the funeral. Burial will be Saturday, Jan. 12th, at 11 a.m. in McGhee Cemetery near Perry, Ark. under the direction of Harris Funeral Home, Morrilton, Ark. Wanda was born Nov. 21, 1923 in Perry, Ark. to A.B. and Lanta (McGhee) Green. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teacher’s College. After which she taught in the Plainview-Rover School District. In 1945 she met her husband William A. Strickland, Jr. They were married June 2, 1946.

Wanda was preceded in death by a son, William Alva (Dub) Strickland, and a daughter-in-law, Anita Strickland. She is survived by her husband William A. Strickland Jr., by son, Robert A. Strickland (Ellen), son, David A. Strickland, daughterin-law, Wanda Reece Strickland, and three grandchild­ren; Lea, Rebekah, and Matthew.

MONROE, La. — A memorial service celebratin­g the life of Adrienne S. Tidwell, 85, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe with The Very Reverend T.W. Stodghill, III officiatin­g. Interment to follow at the Grace Episcopal Church Columbariu­m. Mrs. Tidwell passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Adrienne was born in New Orleans on March 24, 1927 and moved with her parents to Monroe at age 3. She was a graduate of Neville High School in 1943 and attended Sophie Newcomb Memorial College. In the 1950’s she also worked for her father, Dr. Nathan Gaston, who was the only orthodonti­st in North Louisiana practicing in this newly developed and state of the art part of the dental field. It was through her father’s orthodonti­cs specialty that she met Dr. Therman “Snuffy” Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas whom she married in 1960. Adrienne made the decision to move back to Monroe in January, 1978 to be with friends and family following the death of Snuffy in 1975. In 1994, she married long-time and childhood friend Carl “Cig” Tidwell of Monroe whom she remained married to until her death. Adrienne was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, a former member of Bayou DeSiard Country Club and belonged to numerous organizati­ons such as Monroe’s Junior Charity League and Little Rock’s Twentieth Century Club serving as president of both organizati­ons.

Adrienne is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Nathan and Adrienne Gaston and Dr. Therman “Snuffy” Smith. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Carl “Sig” Tidwell; son, Nat Smith and his wife Stephanie of Monroe; a daughter, Adrienne Bailey and her husband Mack of Leesville, La.; step-daughter, Barbara Dunn and her husband Jim of Tulsa, Okla.; step-daughter Carolyn Jordan of Nashville, Tenn.; step-son, Mike Smith and wife Patty of Little Rock, Ark.; step-daughter, Jan Tidwell and step-son Dr. Gregg Tidwell and Dusty Gibbs of Monroe. She is also survived by 10 grandchild­ren and 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held at Kilbourne Hall at Grace Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, an hour before the memorial service. The family wishes to extend their thanks and heart-felt gratitude to Drs. Frank Weinholt and Michael Sampognaro, Jennia Adams with Louisiana Hospice, and the entire staff of care-givers at The Terrace who gave Adrienne excellent care and love. ALBUQUERQU­E, N.M. — Joseph A. Terry. Joe, age 85, passed away on December 25, 2012, in Albuquerqu­e, N.M. He was born in Boston, Mass., October 8, 1927, but raised in Little Rock by David and Adolphine Terry. He left Central High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He served as Radar Operator in the South Pacific area aboard a CVE Escort Carrier. At war’s end, he attended both Universiti­es of Arkansas and New Mexico. He then operated three separate and successful glass businesses in Memphis, Orlando and finally in Albuquerqu­e. His passions were always sports and politics. He attended Democratic National Convention­s where he met John F. Kennedy, his brother Bobby and President Johnson. After retiring at age 50, Joe spent his time living in Albuquerqu­e, New Orleans and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is survived by three sons and one brother, William L. Terry, his wife, Betty, and their three daughters of Little Rock.
