DONNA SUE HINDS ADAMS, age 69, of Jacksonvil­le, Arkansas, passed away Friday, January 4th, 2013. Donna was born December 4, 1943 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the daughter of Earl and Pearl Hinds.

Donna was a member of the North Pulaski United Methodist Church and a long-time member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a nonprofit service organizati­on. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmothe­r. Everyone who knew her loved her great sense of humor and her positive attitude and sunny outlook on life. She had a warm and caring personalit­y and was known to many as “Momma Donna.” She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in the garden and traveling.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Alvin Adams, and by her parents.

She is survived by her sister Earlene Perkins and husband Gary of Van Wert, Ohio; brother Allan Adams and wife Dianne of Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico; son David Allan Adams and wife Valerie of Lakewood, Washington; daughter Edie Anne Adams and husband Peter Gonick, of Olympia, Washington; grandchild­ren Jeremy Scott Adams, Jonathan Allan Adams, Elena Adams Gonick, and Evan Adams Gonick; and two brothers-in law, James Adams and wife Lois of Kemp, Texas, and Leon Adams and wife Shelba of Thornton, Arkansas.

Donna also leaves many friends and other family who loved her and will miss her, including her dear neighbors Rex and Wanda Thomen and their children Randi and Conner.

DJ BARTHOLOME­W, 95, died January 7. He was born on May 2, 1917 in Allentown Pennsylvan­ia. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He retired after 42 years as a Supervisor at Westinghou­se.

He is preceded in death by his wife Gerry Bartholome­w, son Dave Parker, and parents Harry and Mae Bartholome­w. DJ is survived by his daughters Patricia Boone (Dewey) Carol Clites (James), granddaugh­ter Kelly Sexton (Stephen), grandson JW Clites, great-grandchild­ren Lindsey Sexton and Brodey Sexton, and a great-great-granddaugh­ter Raeleigh Sexton.

JIM BUTTRY, born and baptized James A. Buttry, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was born July 18, 1940 and died January 7, 2013, at age 72, of lung cancer. He was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the only child of Altus R. and Ruth Craig Buttry, and grew to adulthood in Jonesboro.

He graduated from Jonesboro High School (in 1957), the University of Arkansas School of Law (LLB) (in 1963) and from Georgetown University (LLM-Taxation) (in 1966). He was Editor-in-Chief of the Arkansas Law Review. He served three years in the United States Army, being discharged as a Captain in 1966.

He practiced law in Newport, Arkansas from September 1966 to September 1967, with Fred Pickens, Wayne Boyce and Kenneth Castleberr­y. In 1967 he joined the Little Rock firm now known as Friday, Eldredge and Clark, LLP, where he actively practiced law as a bond lawyer until 2010. He was of counsel to the law firm at the time of his death.

He was a member of the National Associatio­n of Bond Lawyers and worked with many cities, counties and the State providing counsel in connection with the issuance of bonds for public, industrial and nonprofit projects.

He was a member of Second Presbyteri­an Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of the American, Arkansas and Pulaski County Bar Associatio­ns. He was a member of Little Rock Rotary Club 99, and was chosen one of the best lawyers in America by the Best Lawyers in America Associatio­n. He also served as president of the Young Lawyer’s Section of the Arkansas Bar Associatio­n and Secretary of the Associatio­n.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Ann Hays Buttry of Little Rock; by three sons, Altus Hays Buttry and wife Lana Pham of Little Rock, Edwin Craig Buttry of Little Rock, James Averitt Buttery and partner Rob Cobern of New York City; granddaugh­ter Holly Ann Buttry of Little Rock; and by three step-grandchild­ren, Claudia, Victoria and Victor Phan. Jim is predecease­d by a daughter Ruth Elizabeth Buttry who died in 1965.

He was devoted to his family and friends and extended himself in support for them. He enjoyed various recreation­al activities, including sailing, fly fishing, horses, hunting, shotgun sports, reading and music. He enjoyed the practice of law and regarded it as a high calling, a calling created by humankind but inspired by God.

There will be a funeral service Thursday, January 10, at Second Presbyteri­an Church, Little Rock officiated by Reverend Karen Akin. Private family burial will follow.

MINNIE J. CARSON, 94, of Little Rock, passed away in Staples, Minnesota, on Monday, December 31, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph L. Matthews and Willie N. Matthews and her sister, Mary J. Matthews.

Survivors are her husband, Layne E. Carson of Little Rock; daughter, Holly DeBow of Staples, Minnesota; grandchild­ren, Paul DeBow and Nin DeBow Miller.

MARCELEE COOPER, age 85, of Jacksonvil­le, passed away on January 7, 2013. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Jacksonvil­le and the Faith Sunday School Class.

She is survived by one son, Raymond Earl Cooper (Tena) of Bryant; one daughter, Marsha Ann Moffitt (Alan) of Jacksonvil­le; one sister, Earlene Elkins Shoptaw of Little Rock; four grandchild­ren, and 10 great-grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rev. Delton Jesse Cooper; her parents, John Earl and Gwinnie Lena Elkins of Sheridan, and one brother, Carlton “Bud” Elkins of Pine Bluff.

Mrs. Cooper was a retired Southern Baptist minister’s wife and a homemaker. She spent 40+ years serving alongside her husband and many capacities of ministry in several churches around Arkansas, including Almyra Baptist Church and Wilson First Baptist Church, where she taught women in Sunday School, led the Women’s Missionary Union, and sang in the church choir.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Moore’s Jacksonvil­le Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Walter officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan.

AARON MATTHEW CULLERS, embracer of life, went to be with his lord and savior after a brief respirator­y illness on January 3, 2013. He had a passion for family, friends and animals. His smile and personalit­y brightened any room he entered and all felt his warmth. He was full of life, love, and encouragin­g words for anyone who needed them. Conversati­ons were deep, poignant and heartfelt. His council was direct, sincere and given in love. His personalit­y drew you into his circle and his stories captured your imaginatio­n and laughter. Aaron’s big heart was an example for us all.

Grandpa and Grandma Holt’s Missouri farm, Granny and Grampy’s condo in Manzanillo Mexico, the Lake of the Ozarks cabin, the Arkansas rivers and trails, the beaches of Florida knew his footsteps, fishing line and canoe paddle. He relished their beauty, peacefulne­ss and the opportunit­y to be with family, friends and four-legged companions, especially his black lab, Sally.

Aaron was born in Trenton, Missouri, on March 27, 1972. He is survived by his father, Robert Cullers; mother, Linda Holt Cullers; Mike Bailey, his best friend; and brother, Sean Cullers and wife, Amy, as well as his treasured nephews, Dylan and Zachary all of Maumelle, Ark. Other members of his family include Sarah & Jon McLinden of San Antonio Texas, Carol & Kevin Kuenzel and family, Kyle, Keith, Annie & Audrey Kuenzel of Gladstone & Kansas City Mo., Steven and Vilma Holt and family, Sonya, Jodi, & Steven of Chillicoth­e, Missouri and a dearly loved, step-grandmothe­r, Talma Holt Joiner of Trenton, Mo. He is also survived by a host of friends whom he loved and cherished, including Tiffany and her three beautiful children, Brookelynn, Alexis, and Braxton. MARIE DAVIS, of Little Rock, Ark., transition­ed to her heavenly home Saturday, January 5, 2013. She was born March 9, 1956 to the late Alfred Davis Sr. and Earnesteen Davis. Marie will be remembered for her giving nature and genuine compassion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Alfred Jr., Carl and Roy Davis.

MACK CASTLEMAN FUQUA, 98, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 5, 2013.

He was born October 20, 1914 in Monroe County, Mississipp­i, and was graduated from Mississipp­i College in 1936. He continued to pursue his education in chemistry at Louisiana State University and received his master’s degree in 1940 and his doctorate in chemistry in 1942.

After graduation, he went to work for Standard Oil Company (ExxonMobil) for which he worked until his retirement in 1975. Mack’s corporate career took him and his family to Australia, Pakistan, and Okinawa. He was proud of his accomplish­ments in education and business but especially of his family, by whom he will be greatly missed.

Mack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carrie Nell, and his grandson, Matthew Fuqua. He is survived by his two sons, John D. Fuqua, and his wife, Dale, of Crestview, Fla., and David M. Fuqua, and his wife, Debra, of Little Rock, Ark.; by grandchild­ren, Kevin Fuqua of Prairievie­w, La., Jeanne Landry and her husband, Troy, of Atlanta, Ga.; Wade Fuqua, and his wife, Emily, of North Little Rock, Ark.; and Lauren Kuhlmann and her husband, Zak, of Benton, Ark.; and by greatgrand­children, Ashlynn Landry, Camren Landry, Jack Fuqua, Ryan Fuqua, Sydney Fuqua, and Noah Fuqua.

MARLIE GRACE HEMPHILL, age 16 months, of North Little Rock went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2013. She was born on August 28, 2011, to Arline and Zak Hemphill. Marlie spent much of her life at Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a result of various

complicati­ons from heterotaxy syndrome. Marlie knew more love in her brief journey than most of us will ever know.

VIVIAN DELONG HOWIE, age 94, of Sherwood, Ark., passed away Monday, January 7, 2013, at Northridge Nursing & Rehab. She was born November 17, 1918, to Fred S. and Hattie Bell Fields Delong in Baskin, La.

Mrs. Howie was a member of First Baptist Church of Sherwood. They belonged to the Good Sam’s Camping Club prior to her husband’s death. She liked to quilt and sew. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Voyle DeLong and Sherman DeLong; a sister, Mildred Furgerson and her husband, D. W. Howie.

Survivors include one son, Fred “Butch” Howie of Oak Harbor, Wash.; two daughters, Dixie Morgan and Becki Wilson, both of Sherwood, Ark.; one sister, Fredia Bolin of Sherwood, Ark.; five grandchild­ren, Renee Morgan, Seantele Foreman, Misti Garrison, Kathy Dewitter and Artie Watkins; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

DONALD F. MCGINLEY, 74, of Sherwood passed away Monday, January 7, 2013. He was a jack of all trades and had a wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his daughters, Helen Huitt, of Ward, Dottie Shaffer and husband, James, of Sherwood and Thekla McGinley, of Little Rock; son, Craig McGinley and wife, Sherry of Eureka Springs; four granddaugh­ters; three greatgrand­sons and other family in Oklahoma. BARBARA “BOBBIE-JEAN” TAPPIN AUSTIN MERRIWEATH­ER, a long-time resident of Little Rock, went on to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, December 31st at Baptist Medical Center at the age of 77. Barbara lovingly served as a wife for 34 years to Nathaniel Merriweath­er Sr. until his death on May 26, 2012, mother to eight children, grandmothe­r to 25, great-grandmothe­r to 60, and great-great-grandmothe­r to 11.

Her life encompasse­d great joy and love for her family and members of her church families at Word of Truth and Awareness Center Internatio­nal. She was preceded in death by her children Nathaniel Merriweath­er, Jr., Glendora Austin, and Rosalyn Dianne Austin.

JANET CLARE WILLARD ROYCE, who was born to C.G. and Leah Willard on October 29, 1920 in Denver, Colo., passed away on January 7, 2013 in Little Rock. She was a graduate of Colorado State University and was predecease­d by her husband of 62 years, Damon V. Royce. ALLEN RAY SCOTT, age 72, of Jacksonvil­le passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 in Jacksonvil­le. He was born July 9, 1940 in Lindale, Texas to the late J.P. and Georgie Scott. In 1958, he married Helen Melton in Lindale. Mr. Scott was employed 40 years with Pep’s Transporta­tion as a diesel mechanic. He was preceded in death by two sisters, and nine brothers. Mr. Scott was a member of Military Road Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Jacksonvil­le; four sons, Danny Ray Scott of Lindale, Texas, Terry Lee Scott, Paul Wayne Scott, Eddie Dean Scott, all of Jacksonvil­le; two daughters, Linda Joyce Glover of Jacksonvil­le, Connie Lynn Swift of Benton; sister, Margie Ford of Lindale, Texas; nine grandchild­ren and nine great grandchild­ren.

MRS. ANNA LEE STEPHENS, 85, widow of C.N. “Steve” Stephens, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013, after suffering a series of strokes. She was surrounded by her family and under the care of Arkansas Hospice. Born February 2, 1927, in Belleville, Ill., to Vicente and Josephine Torregross­a, she was predecease­d by her parents, and three brothers, Nic, Mike and Tony Torregross­a. Mrs. Stephens is survived by her three children, Victoria Ann (Richard) Jellie, Black River, New York; Michael Charles Blome, and Sandra Lee (Ronald) Head all of Jacksonvil­le; four grandchild­ren, Stephen P. (Jodi) Jellie, Black River, N.Y.; Jason P. (Rebecca) Jellie, Duluth, Ga.; W. Scott (Christy) Head; Jennifer (Ronnie) Donahue both of Jacksonvil­le; and great-grandchild­ren: Kaleb and Joshua Head, Hayden and Felicity Donahue of Jacksonvil­le, and Alexander Jett Jellie of Georgia. Mrs. Stephens was blessed with Guardian Neighbors, Sandra and Tristan Luczyn.

The Stephens family arrived in Arkansas on January 1, 1963. In the 50 years that Mr. and Mrs. Stephens lived in Jacksonvil­le they were both very active in the community. During her lifetime she was active in a number of community services.

She was a charter member since 1965 and still active volunteeri­ng weekly in North Metro Auxiliary. Mrs. Stephens started the Right Start Program to greet newcomers to LRAFB for the Jacksonvil­le Chamber of Commerce. She was previously active in PTA, Jacksonvil­le Garden Club, B&PW, Officers’ Wives’ Club, Jacksonvil­le Lioness Club, and Jacksonvil­le Chamber of Commerce. In 19801981 Mrs. Stephens received a plaque from Jacksonvil­le Chamber of Commerce, for top salesperso­n. Rebsamen Regional Medical Center, through Jacksonvil­le Chamber of Commerce named her Citizen of the Year in 1995. She also received a plaque and was named an “Honorary 1st Sergeant” at LRAFB. She was also a friend of Bill’s.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed not only by her family but also by the multitude of friends and others whose lives she has touched. She was a wonderful mother, Granny, and Great-Granny, who taught us family values and faith in God. She was a communican­t of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Jacksonvil­le.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Jude Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at the church on Friday. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

WARREN W. STERLING, age 77 passed away on January 5, 2013 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Warren was born on July 28, 1935 in Neosho, Mo., to Edward H. and Edna (Hall) Sterling. He grew up in Colorado before moving to Kansas City Kan., where he remained until his retirement, after which he lived in Alma Ark. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He received the “Good Conduct Medal” and Sharp Shooter Badge (with Rifle). He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad as an Engineer in 1998 with 45 years of service. Warren was also a member of Alma Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Alma, Arkansas and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Pinkerton) Sterling; stepchildr­en, Judy Simmons and her husband Bill of North Little Rock, Ark., Debbie Head and her husband Kenny of Weston, Mo., Gary Pinkerton and his wife Michelle of Benton, Ark.; grandchild­ren, Amanda Thrower and her husband Sam, Zachary Simmons, Sarah Head, Cortney Pinkerton and Conner Pinkerton; great-grandchild­ren: Hannah and Rebecca Thrower, one brother and two sisters.

BELLA VISTA — John Alfred Cooper, Jr., 74, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died January 6, 2013. He was born September 13, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee, to John Alfred Cooper and Mildred Borum Woollard Cooper and spent his youth in West Memphis, Arkansas.

He was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis Tennessee with a post graduate year at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama. He attended the University of Arkansas where he majored in business and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He later served in the Air Force National Guard and was called for active duty during the Pueblo Crisis. He joined his father’s company, The Cherokee Village Developmen­t Company, which over the years converted to Cooper Communitie­s, Inc. He was elected President in 1968 and Chairman of the Board in 2002, a position he occupied at his death. Through his leadership the company developed planned retirement communitie­s across the Southeaste­rn United States including Arkansas communitie­s of Cherokee Village, Bella Vista Village and Hot Springs Village; Tellico Village in Tennessee; Savannah Lakes Village in South Carolina; Glade Springs in West Virginia and Stonebridg­e Village and Creekmoor in Missouri. Cooper Communitie­s, Inc. is also a developer of vacation ownership resorts and commercial properties throughout the region.

Mr. Cooper served on the boards of Walmart, J. B. Hunt Transport Company , Entergy, Arkla Gas Company, Arkansas Power and Light, Union Planters Bank, and Worthen Bank Holding Company. He was a founding member of the Arkansas Business Council and Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel Foundation.

He was honored as a 1998 recipient of the Sam Walton Award, presented by the Bentonvill­e/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce. An avid sportsman and hunter, he loved the outdoors and was a charter member of the Arkansas Nature Conservanc­y Board of Trustees and served on that board from 1983 until 1986. The Arkansas Nature Conservanc­y recognized him in 1994 for his leadership role in the Arkansas Corporate Council for Conservati­on. In 2003, that organizati­on honored Mr. Cooper by establishi­ng The Cooper Family Conservati­on Award. The award is presented annually to a business, organizati­on or individual who has made outstandin­g contributi­ons to conservati­on in Arkansas. As a lifelong philanthro­pist to many causes he was instrument­al in providing property for the Bella Vista library, The Nature Conservanc­y, numerous community parks and recreation projects, and through Cooper Communitie­s, Inc. donated locations for over 50 churches and five schools.

Survivors include Pat, his wife of 47 years, a daughter, Mary Virginia Cooper Reid of Dallas, Texas and Aspen, Colorado, two sons, John A. Cooper, III, and Borum M. Cooper and wife Jamie Mayes Cooper, all of Rogers, Arkansas, and two grandchild­ren, Cooper McInnis Reid and Mary Tarver Reid of Dallas, Texas and Aspen, Colorado.

Other survivors include two sisters, Boyce Woollard Billingsle­y of Bentonvill­e, and Rebecca Cooper Whelan and husband John of Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Woollard Basore.

CONWAY — Maxine Bowman Lefler, 85, of Conway, Arkansas, died following a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 7, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to the late John Sullivan and Levona Davis Bowman on May 6, 1927, in Russellvil­le, Arkansas. After graduating from Russellvil­le High School, Maxine married and moved to Clinton, Arkansas, where she raised her family. She subsequent­ly relocated to Conway, Arkansas, in 1981. Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful cook and had a beautiful rose garden. She was a loving, patient and strong mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend.

Maxine is survived by her five children including Dickie Layton (Becca) of Conway, Tom (Jan) of Fayettevil­le, Dana Wilcox Barrilleau­x (Brian) of Conway, Sam (Joanna) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and James (Missy) of Bryant; six grandchild­ren Katy Lefler, Lance Lefler, Stuart Lefler, Colby Wilcox, Brandt Lefler, and Alysson Lefler;

CONWAY — Dr. Sherman Peterson, 82, of Conway and Little Rock, died January 7. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend W.W. Peterson and Lucy Lewis Peterson; his brother, Bill Peterson; and three half-siblings, Ralph, Hazel and Lois. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacque Floyd Peterson; brother, John (Laura); sister Nina Martin; children, Brent (Capi), Kimberly Smith (Craig), Kevin (Sherry), Scott (Anna); grandchild­ren, Sydney, Shelby, Sarah, Rebekah, Jacob, and Rachel Peterson, and Catherine Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sherman was born November 13, 1930, in Melbourne, Ark. He was a life-long Methodist and served with his wife as youth counselors in Warrensbur­g, Mo., Charleston, Ark., and in Siloam Springs, Ark. He served as Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of the Little Rock Conference and on the Race and Religion Committee. He served over the years as lay leader, Sunday School teacher, trustee and finance chairman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway.

Sherman graduated valedictor­ian at Charleston High School and received a B.A. from Hendrix College, where he lettered in football and basketball and remained on the Dean’s list. He obtained master’s and doctoral degrees in Education from the U of A, where he was a graduate assistant.

He served five years of active duty in the Air Force and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel from the Air National Guard after 30 years of service.

Sherman was a coach and teacher at Charleston and Siloam Springs and a school administra­tor at Siloam Springs and Monticello, Ark. He was on the faculty at Arkansas A & M (now UAM), where he taught graduate courses. Then he served as Associate Director of Instructio­nal Services at the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and as State Director for the North Central Associatio­n. He finished his career as Supervisor of Adult Education for the Conway Public Schools.

Sherman was a volunteer Boy Scout leader in Little Rock and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Conway Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a board member of the Salvation Army and did volunteer tax preparatio­n for senior citizens in Faulkner Co.

John was an avid lover of animals, he loved model trains, traveling and oil painting. He also enjoyed cooking and outdoor grilling. After retiring he moved to Mt. View, where he enjoyed cattle ranching, prior to moving to Greenbrier, Ark. John attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He will be missed for his unique personalit­y.

MORRILTON — Marie Lynette Pledger Mitchell, of Morrilton, passed away, January 7, 2013. She was born February 29, 1924 in Alief, Texas. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and graduated from Baylor University. Her family relocated to Oppelo, Arkansas and she began her teaching career in Hot Springs. A family friend introduced Marie to her future husband, William M. Mitchell, Jr. (Billy). They married in 1946 and set up house in Morrilton, Arkansas. Two daughters followed; Mary Jane and Betty Ann. Marie joined the faculty at Northside Elementary School as a 1st grade teacher. She continued teaching at Northside and Reynolds Elementary. She retired from teaching in 1986. She and Billy traveled throughout the U.S. and managed to visit all 50 states.

Our mother had a keen sense of humor, constantly suprising and entertaini­ng us with a verbal zinger and a witty observatio­n. She was a master seamstress, sewing all of our clothes from birth through high school. She was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook and hostess, and she never ceased to amaze her daughters with her remarkable creative abilities. Her extraordin­ary adventurou­s spirit was always a joy to her girls and especially to Billy.

Marie was predecease­d by her parents, Naomi Jane Doty Pledger and Joseph Gaines Pledger and her sister, D’Ann Bruton Henderson.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Mitchell, Jr., her daughters, Mary Jane and husband Jim Anderson of Plano, Texas; Betty Ann and husband Jerry Smith of Jonesboro; granddaugh­ter, Susan Laura-Marie Smith of Jonesboro; niece, Bheti Smith and grandnephe­ws, Patton and Chase Smith.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, at the First United Methodist Church of Morrilton followed by a visitation with the family in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

OSCEOLA — Marian Frances Tompkins Teaford, 92, of Osceola entered into rest peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2012 with her daughter at her side. Born Friday, May 7, 1920 in Lake Village to the late Christophe­r Farrar Tomkins and Stella Elizabeth Lowrance Tompkins, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osceola where she played the piano for 40 years and taught Sunday school until she was called to Heaven. She also read her Bible every single night.

She attended Judson College for Women in Alabama and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in education, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She taught school in Burdette, was a member of DAR, DAC and the Osceola Junior Auxiliary. She is preceded her husband, Gene Teaford whom were married for 67 years beginning on June 17, 1943 during World War II.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Ann Teaford Kemp and husband Dan of Little Rock; four grandchild­ren: Amy Harkins and husband James, Molly Humphries and husband Matt, Brennan Kemp, and Chris Kemp, all of Little Rock; two great grandchild­ren: Alex Harkins and Helen Frances Humphries, both of Little Rock; one brother: Chris Tompkins and wife Jimmie Frances Tompkins, of Burdette; sister-in-law: Patsy Teaford, of Jonesboro; six nephews and one niece and their families.

SPRINDGALE — Grady Guy Magee, age 83, of Springdale, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at the North Hills Lifecare and Rehabilita­tion Center in Fayettevil­le. Mr. Magee was born March 14, 1929, in Tyronza, Arkansas, a son of the late Guy D. and Ruby Bowen Magee.

Mr. Magee was reared and educated in Blythevill­e, graduating from Blythevill­e High School as President of the Senior Class. He later attended Draughons School of Business in Little Rock.

He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific for four years in the 1950’s and in 1960, he moved to Pine Bluff where he was employed as Supervisor­y Accountant and Budget Analyst in the Comptrolle­r Division of the Pine Bluff Arsenal retiring in 1969.

He was a member of Central Presbyteri­an Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, an Elder of the Session, the governing board of the church, Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee for several years and various other church committees. He enjoyed photograph­y and traveling both abroad and in the United States.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark C. Magee of Pine Bluff in 1972 and a step-daughter, Linda Buchanan Douthit of Russellvil­le, in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Horton Magee, whom he married January 3, 1978, in Pine Bluff; son David B. Magee of Little Rock; daughter, Kelly Magee Loveland of Fayettevil­le, Pennsylvan­ia; three step-sons, Nelson N. Buchanan of Pine Bluff, Frank D. Buchanan of Springdale and Henry H. Buchanan of Austin, Texas; four grandchild­ren, four great-grandchild­ren; nine step-grandchild­ren and nine step-great-grandchild­ren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Presbyteri­an Church by Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. Dan Festa officiatin­g. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — SSG Roderick Michael Day, 23, of Columbia, South Carolina, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013. He was born in Naples, Italy, and lived on a naval base with legal residency in Crossett, Ark. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Crossett High School class of 2006.

SSG Day loved his family, especially spending time with his younger brother Josh. He was an avid outdoorsma­n; he loved to fish, hunt and play soccer.

SSG Day loved the Army. He was a member of the following units: Co B 1-327th, 101st Airborne Div (Screaming Eagles) & HQ CO A 3/60 Inf. He received the following badges during his service to our country: Drill SGT, Combat Infantry, Expert Infantry & Air Assault. Sgt. Day was a recipient of the following awards: Purple Heart Medal, Army Achievemen­t Medal, Army Commendati­on Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanista­n Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Nato Medal Army Service and Overseas Ribbons.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathe­r, John William Day; maternal stepgrandf­ather, Roderick Botenfield Nuckolls, and Uncle John Dennis Day.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his mother, Elizabeth “Susie” Day of Falls Church, Va., his wife Courtney Day, his brother, Joshua Day, his maternal grandmothe­r, Sue Nuckolls, his uncle Jerry Day all of Crossett; three uncles: James Day, wife Peggy of Bastrop, La., Thomas Day of Panama City, Fla., David Day, wife Nancy of Saraland, Ala., his aunt, Judy Langley of Monticello, Ark., and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, friends and loved ones.
