––––– ––––– JEAN AUGUSTA KELLER RICHTER, 98, passed away July 14, 2013 in Little Rock. Born in Oklahoma City to Lawrence and Marie Klugas Keller, she attended Oklahoma University as a journalism major before marrying Cebert A. Richter in 1937 following a whirlwind romance. Their daughter Judith was born just prior to WWII, and, following Cebert’s return from the Pacific, daughter Holly. The marriage lasted 69 years till Cebert’s passing in Little Rock in 2006.

During the War, Jean began to realize she was a talented artist as well as a writer. When Cebert’s career in the oil industry caused their moves to Garden City, Kan., and later to Norman, Okla., she continued to take painting lessons, entered her works in art shows, won numerous ribbons, and sold many of her works. She also was one of the founders of the Firehouse Art Center in Norman.

During her Garden City years, she became a features writer in 1965 in for the Garden City Telegram, the largest newspaper in western Kansas, just when the movie In Cold Blood was being filmed there. For four years, she wrote human interest stories and interviewed visiting dignitaries such as Ann Landers and Bennett Cerf. Her efforts won four national awards from the National Federation of Press Women, with some of her articles being picked up by the Associated Press. Jean also wrote several articles published in The Daily Oklahoman, most especially one featuring Cebert’s own colorful mother.

Even after moving to Little Rock, Jean continued to write. She sent comments to Arkansas Democrat Gazette writer Charles Allbright for his column, and he published everything she sent. Jean’s writing and painting were cruelly halted by the rapid onset of macular degeneration, but she continued to use her wit and wisdom with her friends and caregivers until her death.

Surviving Jean are daughters Judy Dillon (John) of Independence, Kan., Holly Eaton of Sherwood, Ark., grandson, Brian Eaton (Lori), and great-grandchildren, Jake and Isla of San Antonio, Texas.

––––– ––––– OCALA, Fla. — Eva Faye Massey Coe died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Ocala, Fla. She was born Eva Faye Massey to Leonard Thomas and Cora Johnson Massey, June 25, 1927, Point Cedar, Arkansas. Her father was a sharecropper with a second-grade education, and her mother was a homemaker — making quilts and cooking for relatives and just about anyone who was hungry during the Great Depression.

With humble beginnings, Faye went to a one-room schoolhouse through sixth grade. Although economically depressed, she never let that squelch her God-given intelligence and gifts. After graduating from Bismarck High School in 1945, she went to work as a switchboard operator and various other jobs.

A cousin introduced Faye to a fellow named Andrew Doyle Coe. They were engaged to marry within six weeks, and married three months later, July 9, 1950, in a Nazarene Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and remained married until Doyle’s death 61 years later. She and Doyle reunited in Heaven on July 9, 2013, their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Faye took advantage of U.S. Army benefits to veterans and their family and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Henderson State Teachers’ College. Faye and Doyle set out on their lives journeys as educators, and later Faye earned a Masters of Education from the University of Arkansas.

In 1958, Faye and Doyle applied to adopt a child through the State of Arkansas. On February 14, 1959, they brought home their son, Bruce Graham Coe, and four years later brought home Kimberly Joan Coe. Faye and Doyle gave Bruce and Kimberly all the love, provision and preparation any child could ever hope for.

As a full-time educator, Faye worked hard to support the family. She was a gifted musician, playing the piano, guitar, and she loved to sing — especially Gospel music. Faye also had a passion for collecting dolls and Depression glass. This became her hobby after retiring from school teaching in 1987. She and Doyle would travel to doll shows and other similar venues to sell and trade dolls. Faye also helped start the Kingdom of the Sun Doll Club in Ocala, Fla. She lived out her life in Ocala, Fla., near her daughter Kimberly, son-in-law, Steve, and their three sons, Drew, Matthew and Thomas. Her son, Bruce, his daughter, Hope, son Karis, and granddaughters Grace and Ava live in Houston.

Faye will be laid to rest next to her life-long love, Doyle, in Philippi Church of Christ Cemetery, Point Cedar, Arkansas, at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20 under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Sign online guest book at www.ruggleswilcox.com.
