Union County Hall of Fame to induct six

The Union County Sports Hall of Fame will induct six honorees on Aug. 3 in El Dorado. The Class of 2013 includes the following:

TOMMY BRASHER Born in El Dorado and a graduate of El Dorado high school, Brasher was a high school All-American and a Razorbacks football letterman. He coached high school for 6 years, college 10 years, was an NFL coach for 26 years and was a pro football consultant for 7 years. He coached in Super Bowl 39. Currently he is the defensive line coach with the Kansas City Chiefs.

CLELL BURNETT (deceased) Burnett graduated from UCA with 14 letters in four sports. He coached at El Dorado High and Smackover High, winning district championsh­ips in basketball at both schools. At Smackover, he won a 1943 football title and the junior track title in 1953, as well as state high school championsh­ips in 1955 and 1956. He was an honoree of the Arkansas Hall of Fame.

RICHARD CRAWFORD Born in El Dorado, Crawford attended high school there through the 11th grade. He was a two-time golf All-American at the University of Houston, was on two national championsh­ip teams, and was the first NCAA golfer to win back-to-back individual championsh­ips. Played profession­ally several years.

SMEAD JOLLEY (deceased) Born at Wesson in Union County, Jolley played two years each with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox from 19301933, competing somewhat on equal terms with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. He played 16 years maintainin­g a .367 percentage batting average in the lower minors and the Pacific Coast League.

CECIL KELLUM Selected for his meritoriou­s service to the youth of Union County, Kellum graduated from Smackover High School in 1942. Beginning in the early 1950s, he was athletic director for the El Dorado Boys Club for 17 years, and then executive director another three years. He was a positive influence on hundreds of boys such as Tommy Brasher, Richard Crawford and J. R. Williamson.

JOHN ROBERT WILLIAMSON An All-American and All-Southern football star for El Dorado High School, Williamson also was a college All-American at Louisiana Tech. He played four years with the Oakland Raiders and three years with the Boston Patriots. While with the Raiders, he played in Super Bowl II against the Green Bay Packers.
