Such an awesome deal

-

President Barack Obama’s emphatic promise time after time was that if we liked our health-care plan we could keep it—period. Now, we’re learning the truth. Millions of Americans are losing their health-care policies because they don’t meet the one-size-fits-all Obamacare mandates.

Of course, as usual, there’s a lame excuse by Obama’s eternal defenders: The insurance companies are bad apples selling insurance scams and crummy, substandard policies to people who don’t understand the government knows better the kind of health coverage they need.

Never mind these companies are Blue Cross, Kaiser, Aetna,

etc.; and that those dumb policyholders are intelligent, educated, hardworking people. Why can’t middle-aged people realize they need benefits like birth control, maternity care, drug rehab and mental health care? Never mind if it doubles or triples their costs.

So far it seems this monstrosity is destroying the health coverage people already have, not helping those who need it; and next year when the employer mandate kicks in I’m sure it will be even worse— or companies will have already dumped their employee insurance programs.

The revenue from young, healthy people is critical to the program. How many 30-year-olds will buy a policy and pay a $200 premium plus a $6,300 out-of-pocket deductible before any benefits are paid, and how much will it cost taxpayers to subsidize millions of such policies? BARBARA FOREMAN
