The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, gained 4.29 to 310.92 Friday.

Eleven stocks advanced, five declined and one was unchanged.

Arkansas Best climbed 5 percent on average volume.

Home BancShares rose 4.7 percent in average trading.

For the week, 11 stocks rose and six fell.

Volume for the index was 32.8 million shares. The average daily volume for the week was 21.7 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
