The Atom Smoke and Fire Alarm

What’s to love: A smaller alarm that comes in several finishes to match your decor.

What does it do: Made by First Alert, this micro alarm is just 1½ inches in diameter but still features a loud, piercing siren. It also features new technology — an advanced smoke entry system for fewer false alarms. A 3-volt CR2-lithium battery, which is included, powers the alarm. The Atom uses a smart-clip mounting system to attach the alarm to a wall or the ceiling and finishes include white, wood grain, stainless steel and bronze. The First Alert Atom retails for $27.99 and comes with a 10-year limited warranty.

Slo-Bowl

What’s to love: It kept our pup, Picasso, from inhaling his

food.

What does it do: Ridges and valleys in these bowls slow down your dog as he eats. Eating too quickly can cause bloat and overeating. The colorful bowls come in four different designs all of which make dinner time more of a hunt as they scavenge their food through the mazes. They are top rack dishwasher safe, made with food-safe materials and have a nonslip rubber base which holds the bowl in place. Retail price is $24.99.
