UCA Theatre to present Brecht classic
CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Theatre will present The Caucasian Chalk Circle, by Bertolt Brecht and translated by Alistair Beaton, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday in the Bridges/Larson Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center at the University of Central Arkansas.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle is the story of an infant of ruling-class parents who is abandoned during a military uprising. He is adopted by a peasant girl who raises him as her own. As the boy is about to inherit great wealth, the birth mother returns to claim him. To determine who gets the boy, the ancient test of the Chalk Circle is invoked.
The production is under the direction of Rebekah Scallet, lecturer at the UCA Theatre and artistic director for the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre. Set design is by Josh Anderson of Lonoke, with costume design by Haley Tynes of Shirley, both UCA Theatre students. Lighting design is by Greg Blakey, resident designer, with stage management by UCA Theatre student Sara Sharos of Bentonville.
Tickets are $10 each for the general public and two free with a current UCA ID.
