Not really outrageous

-

A recent editorial was worthy in length and passion of the sinking of the Titanic.

Two Bryant police officers were pilloried for eating 50-ounce “fancy” steaks. (Steaks in petticoats, maybe?) This travesty was horrifying because it was committed in an establishment featuring adult entertainment. The officers were attending a law enforcement conference in Florida, where 50-ounce steaks and adult entertainment are not remarkable.

Another editorial castigating Lt. Gov. Mark Darr’s use of state police and his bizarre explanation of same further remarked, “few taxpayers would hold it against a lieutenant governor for wanting protection.” I think they would if they knew the office is unnecessary and without purpose. The editorial writer should educate himself about the office and what taxpayers get for their money.

The Darr editorial then takes another gratuitous shot at the cops: “… this reminds us of those two cops in Bryant who attended the conference in Florida … where they rang up a bill at a strip club. And then asked taxpayers for reimbursement.”

I believe this misleading characterization insinuates that the cops were billing the city for knocking back shots and receiving lap dances. Casual or uninformed readers could conclude that these were two salacious rogues indulging their vices on the city’s dime.

I cannot fathom why this particular bone is lodged so deeply in the editor’s craw.

Two bits of advice. To the editor, lighten up; you have not stumbled upon the outrage of the century. To the cops, be safe.
