Man robbed, shot by Craigslist seller

- SCOTT CARROLL

A man was robbed and shot Friday after meeting a man through Craigslist who said he was selling a car, Little Rock police reported.

Officers responded about 11:21 a.m. to the 1000 block of McMath Street. Brent Dodds, 30, had been shot in the arm. He was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Dodds told police that he and Timothy Payne, 28, had driven from Pine Bluff to meet a man who had advertised a car on Craigslist, according to a police report. When they arrived, two people told them the car was being detailed and that it would be there shortly.

One of the robbers then pulled a gun and demanded Dodds’ wallet and the $2,300 he had brought to purchase the car, according to the report. The man shot Dodds when he didn’t hand over his wallet quickly enough.

The men fled by foot down the street, entered a vehicle described as a black Chrysler 300 and drove away. Police searched the area but made no arrests.

Detailed descriptions of the suspects were unavailable Friday night.

Dodds had texted one of the suspects to arrange the meeting, and investigators noted the phone number, police said.
