3 killed on I-30 near Texarkana.

Car rear-ended after merger

Three Texarkana, Texas, residents were killed in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 30 in Arkansas just northeast of Texarkana.

Daniel Gonzalez, 18; Nathaniel Rodriguez, 21; and Sofia George, 21, were passengers in a Mazda that merged onto I-30 eastbound from the shoulder of the interstate and was rear-ended by a Freightlin­er truck, Arkansas State Police reported. The two-vehicle crash occurred at 1:43 a.m. Saturday in Miller County.

The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda and two other passengers were transporte­d to Christus St. Michael hospital in Texarkana, Texas. The driver of the Freightlin­er and a passenger were not injured.

State police also reported that a woman was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon at the intersecti­on of U.S. 82 and Industrial Road in El Dorado.

Nancy Ingram, 68, of El Dorado, died when the vehicle she was driving entered U.S. 82 from Industrial Road and struck a westbound Mack truck around 2:22 p.m, according to state police.

Ingram was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. The driver of the truck was not injured in the wreck.

According to state police, conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crashes Friday and Saturday.

State police also have reported that a Wynne woman died Nov. 13 in a five-vehicle crash on U.S. 64 in Cross County.

Three other people were injured in the crash that killed Shameka Patterson, 37.

According to a police report, Patterson lost control of her eastbound car on the ice-covered roadway.

Her vehicle hit a bridge and slid into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a truck and caught fire around 5:55 a.m.

A westbound tractor-trailer jackknifed while avoiding the wreck, and its trailer entered the eastbound lane of U.S. 64 and hit two other vehicles.

The three injured people were transporte­d to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro and CrossRidge Community Hospital in Wynne.

State police reported that it was sleeting and the road was icy at the time of the crash.
