Liner fix to close senior center pool

- JAKE SANDLIN

Repairs are scheduled to begin Monday on the aerobics pool at the Patrick Hays Senior Citizens Center, 401 W. Pershing Blvd., closing the pool for most or all of the month.

Portions of the lining of the pool’s sides and the base of the pool are in need of replacement, center Director Charley Baxter has said. The approved low bid was $16,170 by Mid-America Pool Renovations Inc. of Grandview, Mo. An additional estimated cost of $2,500 will pay to refill the pool and prepare it once the repair is done, Baxter said.

Mid-America’s work is expected to be completed by Christmas, with all work finished by the end of the year, Baxter said in a memo to the city’s Senior Citizens Commission. The commission oversees the center’s policies and budget.

The pool is part of the original building that opened in February 2003. A lap pool was among the additions when an expansion of the center was completed in August 2007.
