Keep the Capitol open
Re the idea about possibly closing the Capitol building on weekends and holidays: Please reconsider this proposal.
Those visiting Little Rock from out of town or out of state on the weekends or a holiday can now walk through the Capitol and view the lovely architecture, holiday decor and other exhibits. It is a free destination for families.
Also, we all need to be familiar with how our state government works. Even if the offices aren’t open on a weekend, you can still read the names on the doors and can view the House and Senate chambers.
The Christmas decor is breathtakingly beautiful in conjunction with all the marble architectural features, paintings, and other exhibits. The grounds and gardens also merit a visit.
So few venues are free and affordable these days for families. Please don’t take this one away from us. Weekends and holidays are sometimes the only times available for some people to visit. We need to keep our lovely Capitol building free and open 365 days a year.
Remember, our Capitol is modeled on the U.S. Capitol building. Our Capitol has so much history to teach us. Please don’t close it.
