6 JINGLE BELL RUN/WALK FOR ARTHRITIS
The 23rd annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock. This nationwide signature event of the Arthritis Foundation celebrates those battling arthritis while simultaneously raising funds and awareness of the disease. Early December is a beautiful time of year for a long trail run in southeast Arkansas. With that in mind, the $5 5K/10K/25K will be held at 9 a.m. at Star City’s Cane Creek State Park. The works and achievements of art and fashion enthusiasts will be honored with an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Metroplex Event Center in Little Rock. The awards ceremony will include avant-garde fashions and theatrical performances in an effort to raise funds for and awareness of mental health. 9 DIABETES COOKING CLASS
St. Bernards Health and Wellness Center in Jonesboro will offer a diabetes-support cooking class from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the center, 1416 E. Matthews Ave. The class will provide information to help control diabetes, as well as healthy recipes and tips. There is no registration charge, but seating is limited. Arkansas Children’s Hospital will hold its Festival of Stars from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for the community to make donations of gifts and toys that will help parents to give their children a happy holiday while they are patients at ACH. White County Medical Center in Searcy will host its weekly prenatal yoga class at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Annex Building, at the corner of Hartsfield Drive and Hawkins Street, across from the hospital’s emergency-department entrance. The class, which meets each Tuesday, is a specially designed yoga class for expectant mothers in any trimester. A doctor’s written permission is required to join the class. Little Rock’s 3 Bridges Marathon will begin at 7 a.m. at Two Rivers Park, 4468 River Mountain Road. The course, which is entirely on the Arkansas River Trail, includes a 19-mile loop to the east, then a seven-mile loop to the west. The course crosses the Big Dam Bridge, the Clinton Presidential Bridge and the Two Rivers Bridge. Awards will go to the top three overall, masters and grand masters participants, and to the top three males and females in five-year age groups, from 19 and under through 75-plus. The awards ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., with post-race activities to follow. Registration is $85, and every finisher will receive a medal. For more information, email info@3bridgesmarathon.com.
31 HEART OF HOSPICE GALA
The Arkansas Department of Health will present the Heart of Hospice New Year’s Eve Gala at 7 p.m. at the Russellville Country Club. The evening will include a silent auction, hors d’oeuvers, music, a prime-rib dinner, dessert and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.
