Why they’re separate

-

David Bryant, in his recent letter, says he likes the mix of religion and politics. He feels the separation of church and state is wrong and Christians should use their church time for candidates, because he believes the United States is a Christian nation.

It seems he and his entire ilk are afraid they are losing control of the country, today, to foreigners who want to share the American dream. All the history he cites is during the time when our new nation was primarily made up of Christians.

I wonder why the founding fathers were so concerned about separation when we were almost all Christians. The only logical answer is that they were concerned that what happened in Europe that sent them to America might happen here. One type of religion—Puritan, for example—might become dominant, set up a church state and do away with the others.

How would Mr. Bryant feel if my denomination gained control and I told him to stop worshiping his way and do it my way or go to jail, be deported or worse?

Be thankful you have the right to act foolish about the church and state thing. It protects you from being cut off from your desire to worship as you please. Try being a follower of Jesus and love the Lord with all your being and love others as you would want them to love you. Think about it. It’s not that hard. FRANK YOUNG
