VOLLEYBALL Oregon State ends UALR’s season Oregon State fought off match point in the fourth and fifth sets and ended UALR’s 25-match winning streak in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Topeka, Kan., on Saturday night.
The Beavers (21-12) won 25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 28-26, 19-17 and will meet Stanford on Friday night in the third round. UALR ended its season at 30-5.
Trailing 17-16 in the fifth set, Oregon State’s Amanda Brown blocked Sonja Milanovic to tie the match at 17-17. The Beavers took the lead 18-17 on an attack error by Milanovic and won the match on a kill by Mary-Kate Marshall.
The Trojans fought off elimination when Edina Begic had a kill to tie the match at 16-16 before Carolee Dillard blocked Marshall to give UALR a 17-16 lead.
The Beavers fought off elimination at 14-13 and 15-14 earlier in the set.
In the fourth set, UALR was one point away from advancing when Brown’s attack error gave the Trojans a 25-24 lead, but the Beavers tied the match at 25-25 on a kill by Katelyn Driscoll. UALR took the lead 26-25 on a kill by Milanovic before Marshall’s kill tied the match at 26-26. An attack error by Begic and a kill by Driscoll gave the Beavers their final two points.
FOOTBALL Central Missouri wins Texarkana Bowl Central Missouri scored 31 consecutive points in a 48-21 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday in the Texarkana Bowl in front of an announced crowd of 3,502 fans at Razorback Stadium on Saturday in Texarkana.
Trailing 7-3 in the first quarter, Cullen Rosine caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Hawk to give Central Missouri a 10-7 lead with 4:52 left in the first quarter.
Central Missouri added a 32-yard field goal from Will Mondragon with 14:55 left in the second quarter to make it 13-7. LaVance Taylor scored on a 55-yard run with 1:32 left in the first half to make it 20-7.
Kyle Echols caught a 16-yard pass from Hawk to make it 27-7 with 12:18 left in the third quarter. Taylor caught a 75-yard pass from Hawk to make it 34-7 with 7:35 left in the third quarter.
Southeastern Oklahoma State ended the string of points when Ryan Polite scored on a 2-yard run with 3:05 left in the third quarter to close to 34-14.
Tristan McClelland caught a 7-yard pass from Hawk with 10:46 left in the game to put Central Missouri up 41-14 before Polite added the final touchdown for Southeastern Oklahoma State on a six-yard run with 9:57 left to close it to 41-21.
Central Missouri’s Sean Gorman’s 1-yard run with 3:39 left ended the scoring.
Taylor rushed for 268 yards, a Texarkana Bowl record, had 355 all-purpose yards and scored 2 touchdowns to win MVP honors. Hawk threw for 280 yards on 21-of-25 passing for 4 touchdowns, another bowl record.
