Officers find body of missing student
The body of a Henderson State University student was found in a wrecked vehicle Sunday in Oklahoma, according to a statement from the LeFlore County sheriff’s office.
Oklahoma authorities found Callie Morris, 21, inside a vehicle in a creek in Latimer County, which is just west of LeFlore County. The vehicle was overturned and partially submerged in water, according to the statement.
According to a Facebook page, “Please Pray for Callie,” Morris, a nursing student, left Hot Springs in a 2004 Ford Explorer about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and was traveling to her parents’ home in McAlester, Okla. Friends, family and authorities in Oklahoma and Arkansas helped in searching for her.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is continuing an investi- gation.
Two people were killed and another two were injured in a head-on collision Sunday, according to Arkansas State Police.
Justin Metcalf of Sheridan was driving a Kia Sorento west on U.S. 70, and Robert East of Little Rock was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe east. The vehicles collided about 2:45 a.m. in Benton.
Metcalf, 24, and East, 31, were killed, state police said.
Metcalf ’s passenger — 26-year-old Natasha Gordon of Hot Springs — and East’s passenger — 23-year-old Courtney Jackson of North Little Rock — were injured. They were transported to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock.
According to a preliminary accident report, it was raining and roads were wet at the time of the crash.
