BASKETBALL Gamble earns sixth Sun Belt honor Arkansas State junior guard Aundrea Gamble was named Sun Belt Conference women’s player of the week Monday, the sixth time she has earned the honor in her two-year ASU career.

Gamble averaged 20.5 points and had a combined 11 assists while helping ASU to victories over UALR and Georgia State last week.

She had 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second half of a 70-69 victory over UALR on Thursday. She then had 22 points in ASU’s 61-47 victory over Georgia State on Saturday.

GAC announces players of the week Ouachita Baptist forward Tirell Brown and Arkansas-Monticello forward Jordan Goforth were named men’s and women’s players of the week in the Great American Conference on Monday.

Brown averaged 22.5 points in victories against Arkansas-Monticello and Arkansas Tech. He added six rebounds and four blocks against the Boll Weevils. He was 8 of-12 from the floor and had 7 rebounds and 3 blocks against Arkansas Tech.

Goforth averaged 24.0 points in home victories against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State. Against Ouachita Baptist, she shot 9 of 17 from the floor. She had the game-winning basketball on a hook shot against Henderson State.

TRACK AND FIELD UA teams ranked No. 3 Arkansas’ men’s and women’s indoor teams moved to No. 3 in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Associatio­n weekly rankings Monday.

The women’s poll is dominated by SEC teams, which Florida ranked No. 1, followed by Georgia, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Arkansas scored 111 points in winning the Razorback Invite on Saturday.

In the men’s poll, the Hogs are ranked behind Oregon and Florida and ahead of Texas A&M. The Hogs won the Razorback Invite on Saturday with 85.5 points, edging Texas A&M by a half point.

GYMNASTICS Arkansas eighth in Gyminfo rankings Arkansas is ranked No. 8 in the Gyminfo rankings for the second consecutiv­e week after scoring 196.250 points in the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday in Fort Worth.

Arkansas is ranked in the top 15 in three events. The Razorbacks are ranked sixth in the floor exercise with a 49.231 average, 11th in the vault at 49.194 and 14th in the uneven bars at 48.950.

Sophomore Amanda Wellick is ranked eighth in the floor exercise with an average of 9.900, 17th in the all-around with 39.231 and tied for 20th on the vault with 9.894.

Sophomore Samantha Nelson is ranked 16th on the floor at 9.875 and freshman Paige Zaziski is tied for 21st on the uneven bars at 9.856.

BASEBALL OBU splits with St. Edward’s Ouachita Baptist lost 5-4 and won 3-2 against St. Edward’s (Texas) on Monday in Arkadelphi­a.

In the first game, St. Edward’s held a 5-1 lead before scoring three times in the ninth.

In the second game, OBU’s Jace Melby put down a sacrifice bunt to win the game in the ninth inning to score that scored Chandler Blake.

Preston Speers started the inning by reaching on a throwing error and was replaced by pinch runner Chandler Blake. Justin Weigle followed with a bunt single and Parker Lewis reached on a fielder’s choice that failed to record an out.

After two outs, Melby put down a bunt and the throw home was dropped before Blake scored.
