Kennedy: Nothing is proven yet

FAYETTEVILLE — Texas A&M will take a sixgame winning streak into Wednesday’s game at Ole Miss.

The Aggies, the first team among others receiving votes in the Associated Press poll released Monday, have their longest winning streak since 2009, when they were still in the Big 12.

Texas A&M moved into sole possession of second place in the SEC after downing Vanderbilt 69-58 on Saturday.

The Aggies haven’t trailed in their past two games and haven’t been behind since falling behind 11-9 in a 67-61 victory at Tennessee on Jan. 24.

“We’ve got a lot of games left,” Texas A&M Coach Billy Kennedy said. “There’s no need to celebrate where we’re at in the standings.

“There are a lot of areas we can get better. We got outscored in the second half … three-point shooting, just little things. Too many turnovers, 16 turnovers, it’s just too many, but we got better as a team.”

Mixing transfers Jalen Jones and Danuel House with veterans such as senior point guard Alex Caruso and senior forward Kourtney Roberson has given the Aggies one of the most experienced rosters in the SEC.

“They understand how to play together and they share the ball,” Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings said. “They’ve got a bunch of guys who are good passers. Their system is set up where they can take advantage of three or four guys who can really pass, which is unusual in today’s game.”

Tennessee Coach Donnie Tyndall compared Caruso to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for his ability to avoid big mistakes and make big plays.

Caruso had 14 points and 10 assists against Vanderbilt, his first game with at least 10 in both categories.
