Byron was born February 26, 1917, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Myron Bentley & Clara Lafferty North Brown. He was a graduate of Hastings College and graduated from University of Nebraska Medical School in 1947. He married Yleen Phelan of Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 3, 1945. Byron interned at what is now Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas, and entered active duty as a Navy doctor aboard the APA Thomas Jefferson. In 1949, he began general medical practice in Superior, Nebraska, where he practiced for eight years. His orthopedic training was completed at the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1962. He maintained a private orthopedic practice in Fort Smith, Arkansas, until 1987. Byron and Yleen retired to live at the Good Shepherd Retirement Center in Little Rock ten years ago. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The family would like to thank Carissa Frost and the caregivers of Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center at Good Shepherd, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Brown; and sister, Wilma Nowka. ––––– ––––– ALFRED BOBBY (BOB) DAWSON, 79, of Sherwood died February 1, 2015. He was born August 7, 1935, in Cato to John Virgil and Mabel Burchfield (Clark) Dawson. Bob was an Air Force Veteran, a retired attorney, a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and a member of Big Rock Masonic Lodge.

Bob was a very active member of his community. He was particular­ly pleased to have originated the Artists in the Forest art exhibit which grew to be the largest annual exhibit of Arkansas artists in Arkansas. He served on the Pulaski County Equalizati­on Board, on the Sherwood Facilities Board and Building Authority, and he served the citizens of Sherwood as city attorney for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Kathleen Cartwright, Marie Williford, and Dortha Lingo. Bob is survived by his wife, Sara Beth (Graves) Dawson; son, Robert J. Dawson of Hoschton, Georgia; his wife’s children, Marisa D. Willis of Dallas, Texas, and Paul A. Willis of Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico; nephew, David Williford (Tracey) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; nieces: Judy Jacobs of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Vicki Teague (Don) of Savannah, Georgia, and Kathy Lingo (Allen) of Annapolis, Maryland; and many special great-nieces and nephews.

––––– ––––– IRENE ELIZABETH EDWARDS FEILD, age 94, of Little Rock died Monday, February 2, 2015. “Ms. Irene” or “Rene” was born October 15, 1920, in Bald Knob, to Roy and Christina Edwards. She grew up in a variety of towns across Arkansas. She married “Bob”, Robert Mills Feild, in 1949. They were best friends until his death in 2002.

She graduated at 16 years old from Fayettevil­le High, and went on to a Bachelors in 1941 as well as a Masters of Science and Education degree in 1948 from the University of Arkansas. She loved, and taught, home economics, beginning in Siloam Springs, and retiring from the Little Rock School District in 1982.

She proudly served in the American Red Cross, at Walter Reed, and Fort Sam Houston, helping many returning wounded soldiers from 1945-1946.

She was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for 60 years. She organized the children’s choirs, planned potluck dinners, special events, the Advent Chrismon tree, WSCS, then UMW, Me Third, Irene Elder Circle, Vacation Bible School, Altar Guild, shutin and nursing home visits, and did pretty much any and everything else that needed doing. She and Bob were honored as Pillars of the Church in 1998.

She is survived by brother, RT Edwards; sons, Charles (Chris, children Daniel and Hannah), David (children, Stuart, Mary, and Helen); and daughter, Jean Feild Camp (Ed, children Rebecca Bryan [Josh, great-granddaugh­ter, Jerah] sons, Brandon, and John Hunter).

The family thanks Presbyteri­an Village and Arkansas Hospice staff for their care. Born on July 31, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Rolland R. and Ella Tedford Hill, he was a profession­al musician with the bands, The Right Track and Outrageous, and spent the last 33 years with the Agape Band. He was the owner/operator of Gun Hill Gun Smith.

He is survived by his wife, J. Zig Hill; sons, Louis K. Cryer of Roland and Shane Montgomery of Conway; daughter, Shawn Hill Hallman (Mark) of Benton; sisters, Ellason Castiglion­e and Nancy Roseberry (Bill), both of Hot Springs; and three grandchild­ren, Rebekah Hallman, Lenee Montgomery and Jeremy Montgomery.

The family would like to thank the SICU staff nurses as well as the nurses at the long term acute care unit at Baptist Medical Center, and Dr. Mary Searcy, Dr. Joe Pevahouse, Dr. Benny Green, Dr. Robert Lavender and Dr. Cidney Scott Hulett for their loving care.

––––– ––––– CAROL GREEN MAROTTI HUGHES of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on February 2, 2015. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 17, 1936, and lived in West Memphis, Arkansas; Atlanta, Georgia; and Little Rock, Arkansas.

She is predecease­d by her first husband Alfred Marotti Jr. and son Robert Watson Marotti. She is survived by her husband, Rufus R. Hughes II; son, Scott Marotti, MD, and his wife Tonya, daughter, Jane Marotti, stepson, David Hughes and his wife Rosalie, stepson, Jonathan Hughes and his wife Jeanne, and seven loving grandchild­ren.

Although born in St. Louis, Carol grew up, married and raised her family in West Memphis. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Carol was the first person to be confirmed at Holy Cross and served as a Servant Leader in that parish for many years. Some of her fondest memories revolve around raising her children in the church. Carol remarried and transferre­d her endless energy and service to St. Dunsten’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Carol was an active leader in the American Heart Associatio­n, and volunteere­d for multiple organizati­ons. She had a love for the arts and especially appreciate­d all aspects of music. Her love for God, family, and friends was boundless.

A celebratio­n of Carol’s life will be held on Thursday, February 5, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church located at 209 Park Drive, West Memphis, Arkansas 72301. There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 12 noon. A graveside ceremony will be held at Crittenden Memorial Cemetery in Marion, Arkansas, following the service. ––––– ––––– JAY LYNN JONES,86, of Little Rock died on Monday, February 2, 2015. Jones was born July 28, 1928, to Jay and Marietta Mayhan Jones, who preceded him in death, as did his sister, Carolyn Jones Knight. Survivors include his brother, Dr. Robin Richard Jones of Little Rock, and his niece, Vickie Lynn Knight Durkin of Sherman Oaks, Calif. Special cousins include Martha Johnston of Birmingham, Ala., Ruth Johnston of Little Rock, Wilma Jones of Minturn and Larry Jones of Minurn. He leaves many other cousins and close friends.

Jones graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1950, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Omega Omega Chapter. After being discharged from the Army, he began his career as a greatly respected Interior Decorator.

After retiring at the age of 67, he joined the Peace Corps and served in Uruguay and Jamaica. Jones returned to Little Rock in 1998 and became a volunteer/philanthro­pist, giving freely and generously of his time to Camp Aldersgate, Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement Center, and many other charities.

Recognized as Volunteer of the Year by Camp Aldersgate, Jones also received the 2007 Amazing Spirit Award from Baptist Health for his efforts to make Little Rock a better community in which to live. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, for 86 years.

A celebratio­n of Jones’ life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, 732 Center Street, with Dr. F. Gladwin Connell officiatin­g. ––––– ––––– Bro. CHARLES MITCHELL JR., of Little Rock, was born April 26, 1949 to the late Charles Mitchell Sr. and Olevia Mitchell in Eudora, Arkansas. In 1960, he professed hope in Christ. He graduated from East High School and joined the United States Army in 1968, where he proudly served his country. After his military discharge, Bro. Mitchell worked as a foreman at McDonald Douglas in St. Louis, Mo. On November 26, 1986, Bro. Mitchell united in holy matrimony to Shirley Burse of Gillett, Arkansas; to this union in 1998, five beautiful children were adopted. Upon moving to Cabot, Ark, he joined Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, where he worked diligently to ensure the completion of the church’s school; Bro. Mitchell continued to serve as a faithful member until his health failed. Bro. Mitchell was an outdoorsma­n, as he thoroughly enjoyed gardening, fishing and farm animals. Love-ones hold fond memories of him wearing his overalls and hat, saying, “Hear me and hear me good!” He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and a wonderful provider for his family. Bro. Mitchell departed this life on the evening of January 25, 2015, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center (UAMS) in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Roosevelt Wallace; sisters, Betty Mitchell and Neicey Wallace, and brother, Fred Wallace. Cathy is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Pettit Sr. and infant grandson, Thomas Holland Myrick. She is survived by her two daughters, Tonia Hamby and Missy Nickell; two sons, Billy Pettit Jr. (Michelle) and Stephen Pettit (Krista); grandchild­ren, Jeffrey, Thomas, Brooke, Kayla, Riley, Chase, Brina, Gavin, Tearnin and Pantera; great-grandbaby, Santanna; three sisters, six brothers and a host of family and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.

A celebratio­n of life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 3 p.m. at East End Assembly of God Church. ––––– ––––– GEORGIA RAEF, 92, of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with her Lord, Saturday January 31,2015. She was born February 17, 1922 in Broken Bow, Okla. to the late William and Maggie Snider.

She was preceded in death by her husband’s, Joseph Adams and Fredrick Raef; and her daughter, Danna Sue Adams Cox. Georgia is survived by her three sons, Randy Adams (Gayla) of Little Rock, Ark., Ronnie Adams of Brownwood, Texas, Jason Cox (Melissa) of Rockwell, Texas; six grandchild­ren, Evan and Erin Adams Tania Wilson, Dawn Davis, Megan and Lauren Cox; and her beloved dog Cricket and a host of family and friends.

Georgia was an executive housekeepe­r for many of the top hotels in Little Rock for years. She loved her family and friends dearly.
