VICKSBURG, Miss. — Max Stephen Lamb of Vicksburg, Mississipp­i, died February 2, 2015, at age 78. Mr. Lamb worked for 35 years for the Corp of Engineers as a river engineer. This included work in Little Rock, Arkansas; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Vicksburg, Mississipp­i. His last 20 years were spent at the Mississipp­i River Commission. This work significan­tly contribute­d to the Mississipp­i River Valley Flood Control and Navigation Project. Mr. Lamb was awarded the 1993 Earnest D. Blankenshi­p Engineerin­g and Scientific Award and was inducted into the Lower Mississipp­i Hall of Fame for government employees. His accomplish­ments also included the Arkansas and Red River navigation projects. During this time, he was instrument­al in developing new concepts in navigation design.

Following his retirement from the Corp of Engineers in 1993, he became a river engineer consultant designing and/or advising on the developmen­t of large flood river systems. This included work on the Yellow River in China; the Nile River in Egypt; the Brahmaputr­a and Ganges Rivers in Bangladesh; the Magdalena River in Columbia; the Orinoco River in Venezuela; and the Red River in the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents Max Daniel Lamb and Christine Lamb of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife Henrietta; daughter Susan Lamb of El Cerrito, California; and daughter Karen Harris (John) and granddaugh­ter Corey Nihlean (Jeffrey) of Austin, Texas. For those that knew him, he will be very much loved and missed, but not forgotten.

A memorial service or celebratio­n of life is not definitive at this time. Any plans will be announced later.

––––– ––––– COLUMBIA, Mo. — Elizabeth Ann (Mills) Parry, age 69, of Columbia, Missouri, died January 31, 2015, surrounded by family. She was born November 30, 1945, to the late Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Mills of Marshall, Arkansas. A 1963 graduate of Marshall Arkansas High School, she took up business training at Arkansas Polytechni­c College in Russellvil­le, Arkansas. Liz lived most of her adult life in Little Rock, but moved to Columbia, Missouri, in 2014 to be closer to the excellent medical care available there for treatment of the very rare disease she suffered this past four-and-a-half years.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Dr. K.A. Parry; daughter Shelly Glenn (Brian) of Cabot; son K. Alan Parry, Jr. (Mary) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and her five grandchild­ren, Taylor and Collin Stauffer, and Nathan, Emma and Ben Parry; her brother Jim Mills (Marian) of Searcy; and her nieces, Sara Landis of Fayettevil­le and Sharon Yetter (Rob) of Denver, Colo. Liz enjoyed many wonderful memories with her extended family in Missouri and Arkansas as well.

Liz was a strong Christian and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmothe­r. She was a wonderful homemaker and a very successful office manager for several law firms and accounting offices, as well as other jobs over the years. She belonged to the Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club, participat­ing in national bridge tournament­s and earning the level of Bronze Life Master. She was a member of First Christian Church in Marshall, Ark., and Little Rock, Ark. She helped design, implement and lead the First Christian Church Food Pantry for over 13 years.

Liz will be missed by all, but her family and friends are very proud of her long and courageous battle with this rare disease. Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Marshall, Ark., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015. ––––– ––––– LUBBOCK, Texas — Janie Mullins Sims of Lubbock (formerly of Petersburg) died on February 1. Janie was born in Russellvil­le, Arkansas, to the late Lester and Ethel Mullins. She married LT. A. Milton Sims and they lived in Amarillo, Childress, and Plainview, before moving to Petersburg. He preceded her in death in April, 1992. Janie has resided in Lubbock since 2009. She is survived by two sons: Bob Sims of Castle Pines, Colo., and Dave Sims of Canyon; and a sister: Beth Paulson of Little Rock, Ark. She has five grandchild­ren and 16 great-grandchild­ren. Janie was active in local and national United Methodist Women organizati­ons and served as Matron and Deputy Grand Matron in the Order of Eastern Star.
