Conway Dinner Theater plans Valentine Cabaret

-

CONWAY — The Conway Dinner Theater will present a Valentine Cabaret at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Faulkner Academy of Arts, 2201 Washington Ave. The entrance to the theater is on Hutto Street.

There is no admission charge.

Dessert plates will be available for $6 and will feature New York Cheesecake or Chocolate Ecstasy, which is a chocolate brownie with ice cream. Dessert plates must be purchased online at www.faulkneracademyofarts.org. A gluten-free option is available but must be requested when purchasing the dessert plate.

Dean “Doc” Cato, artistic director of the Conway Dinner Theater, said the theme for the evening will be A Tribute to Great American Love Songs. Among the songs that will be presented during the evening are “Over the Rainbow,” “Under My Skin” and “All of Me.”

Cato said several guest artists, including Ed Lybarger and Kimberly Norris, both of Greenbrier, will perform a selection of America’s greatest love songs. The local jazz band Summertime Gin will accompany the vocalists. Members of the band include Sylvia Summers of Mount Vernon, saxophone; Gary Summers of Mount Vernon, drums; Bill White of Little Rock, piano; Brooks Walthall of Conway, bass; and Cato, lead vocalist.

“This will be a fun night of live music suitable for the whole family,” Cato said. “It will last about an hour or an hour and 10 minutes. The band probably will remain after the show to do requests.”

Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Conway Dinner Theater and the Faulkner Academy of Arts, which offers classes in music, drama and the performing arts. The academy sponsors the Conway Dinner Theater and the Conway Women’s Chorus. Joan Hanna is director of the Faulkner Academy of Arts.
