Crashes kill 5 on state roads

Five people were killed on Arkansas roads Monday and Tuesday in five separate wrecks, the Arkansas State Police said.

A Harker Heights, Texas, man was killed Monday morning when his motorcycle left a Garland County road, state police said.

Phillip Lambert, age unknown, was traveling east in the 2900 block of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway when his 2014 Harley Davidson left the road while negotiatin­g a turn, throwing him from the motorcycle, according to state police. The wreck occurred about 9 a.m. Monday.

State police also reported that a Jacksonvil­le man died Monday afternoon from injuries suffered in a White County crash.

State police said Emory Rogers, 77, was traveling west on Arkansas 64 about 2:20 p.m. Monday when he was thrown from his 1986 Honda motorcycle while going around a curve. Rogers was pronounced dead at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock at 3:51 p.m. Monday.

Also on Monday, a Peach Orchard man died in a headon collision in Pocahontas, state police said.

Jim Austin, 80, was driving east on Arkansas 304 in a 2004 Oldsmobile when a 2015 Hyundai traveling west on the highway crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle, state police reported. The wreck occurred at 8:08 p.m. Monday.

Austin was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

According to state police, the driver of the Hyundai, Bruce Stevens, 22, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and a passenger, Cayla Allred, 18, of Pocahontas were injured in the crash and transporte­d to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

On Tuesday morning, a Corning man was killed in a wreck in Clay County, state police reported.

Denver Wayne Vannada, 77, of Corning, was traveling east on Arkansas 1 in a 2007 Freightlin­er when his vehicle overturned while negotiatin­g a curve, according to state police. The crash occurred about 3:51 a.m. Tuesday.

Vannada was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Also on Tuesday morning, a Mountainbu­rg man died in a Crawford County wreck, state police reported.

Jeremy Shane Bentley, age unknown, was driving south on U.S. 71 in a 2oo4 Kia when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a driveway culvert, which caused his vehicle to flip, state police said. The wreck occurred about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Conditions were clear and the roads were dry at the time of all five wrecks, state police said.
