Indictment: Threats made to kill Obama

- LINDA SATTER

An indictment handed up this week by a federal grand jury in Little Rock accuses a man of making seven threats between May 27 and Nov. 19, 2014, to kill President Barack Obama.

James Thomas Dickson, whose age and hometown weren’t available Friday, is accused of mailing a letter May 27 in the Eastern District of Arkansas to the U.S. attorney general and the U.S. Supreme Court, saying, “Mr. President of the United States … you will die very soon by my hand.” The letter also contained the phrases “you will lose your life,” “put a piece of lead in your black ass” and “I am going to kill you and cut off your head.”

Another letter Dickson mailed that same day and addressed to the U.S. Supreme Court warned, “Mr. President of the United States ... you will die very soon,” and “you will die soon by me,” according to the indictment.

Two days later, the indictment alleges, Dickson sent a letter addressed to the FBI again threatening to kill the president and saying, “I have now gave you all a fare [sic] chance to up your security … to try and stop me from killing that black mother f*****.” The indictment said that letter also contained the words “The U.S. President will be shot with a rifel [sic] in the head.”

The indictment accuses Dickson of making four additional threats on June 4, July 16, July 17 and Nov. 19. It says that on June 4 he claimed that a letter contained the deadly toxin anthrax. It said the July 16 threat emphasized that “I have full intent of doing as I stated” in previous letters. The indictment does not say that those letters were mailed.

On July 17, the indictment states, Dickson sent a letter to the U.S. Secret Service and the president, saying, “I have told you both that it don’t matter if Obama is in office or not that I will kill him and this is exactly what I am going to do.” It further stated, “I am doing this so it is keep on your mind so when I do kill you Mr. Obama it is no shock to your stuped [sic] ass.” The letter also mentioned, “My family is on the run now.” Again, there is no mention in the indictment of that letter being mailed or how it came to the attention of authorities.

The indictment accuses Dickson of mailing a letter on Nov. 19 to the U.S. district clerk’s office in Little Rock threatening to kill the president and noting, “Judge J. Thomas Ray Sir I would like to inform you that very soon … I will go to Washington D.C. and kill Brock [sic] Obama.”

Ray is a U.S. magistrate judge in Little Rock.

The indictment charges Dickson with seven counts of making threats against the United States. It was randomly assigned to Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Miller.
