YANKEES 4, PHILLIES 1

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Left-hander Cole Hamels pitched two scoreless innings in his Grapefruit League debut in a loss to a New York Yankees split squad.

Hamels allowed one hit, struck out two batters and did not surrender a walk on 31 pitches at Bright House Field. Rain forced a 50-minute delay in the bottom of the third in the scoreless game.

Yankees starter Bryan Mitchell was just as effective in his two innings. The right hander gave up a single but ended the first inning with a double play and then struck out two in the second, his final inning.

The Yankees scored three runs off Philadelphia reliever Mike Nesseth in the fourth, sending nine batters to the plate. Greg Bird, Ramon Flores and Didi Gregorius all drove in a run during the inning.

RAYS 2, TWINS 1

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Jake Odorizzi pitched one scoreless inning in his spring debut and newcomer Steven Souza had a RBI single to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins.

Odorizzi is the Rays’ projected No. 4 starter after having a solid rookie year in 2014. He walked two of the seven batters he faced, but escaped without allowing a run when he got Kennys Vargas to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Left-hander Tommy Milone looked good for the Twins in his first outing since having surgery in December to remove a benign tumor from his neck. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Max Kepler had a RBI double for the Twins off Matt Andriese, one of four candidates for an open spot in Tampa Bay’s rotation.

METS 5, TIGERS 4

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — New York Mets starter Matt Harvey was impressive in his first outing in more than 18 months, pitching two perfect innings as the New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers.

Harvey, who missed all of last season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, struck out three. The 25-year-old All-Star hit 99 mph with his fastball.

Tigers starter David Price threw two hitless innings. He struck out two, walked one and hit Daniel Murphy on the right hand with a fastball. Murphy left for precautionary X-rays.

Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias exited with a bruised shin. He missed all of last season with stress fractures in both legs.

DODGERS 10, BREWERS 1

PHOENIX — Yasiel Puig got his first hit of the spring and immediately followed it with his first baserunning blunder as a Los Angeles Dodgers split squad beat the Milwaukee Brewers.

After A.J. Ellis hit a three-run home run in the second inning, Puig blooped a single over first base and into short right field. Puig sprinted hard, but wound up trapped between first and second and was thrown out.

Puig drew two walks, in addition to his hit. Alex Guerrero and Darnell Sweeney also homered for the Dodgers.

Brewers starter Matt Garza gave up five runs, only one of them earned, and five hits in two innings. Milwaukee finished with two hits and made three errors.

Ishikawa hit a two-run triple in a five-run second, which Matt Duffy led off with a home run.

Shortstop Brandon Crawford, limited to designated hitter duties because of a tender right shoulder, contributed a two-run triple in the first. Rookie Gary Brown homered in the eighth.

The Rangers have been outscored 30-9 in losing their first three games. Jake Smolinski homered for the Rangers.

DODGERS 7, MARINERS 4

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Chris Taylor helped his chances at becoming the Seattle Mariners’ starting shortstop with a home run and a triple in a loss to a Los Angeles Dodgers split squad.

Taylor is competing for the job with Brad Miller.

Taylor, who made his major league debut last July, tripled off Dodgers starter David Huff and later homered.

Howie Kendrick doubled in the second off Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez and later scored.

Nonroster first baseman O’Koyea Dickson hit his second home run in four at-bats for the Dodgers.

ATHLETICS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Kendall Graveman, bidding for a spot in the Oakland rotation, threw two scoreless innings in his first big-league spring training appearance and the Athletics beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 24-year-old right-hander, who rocketed through the Toronto minor league system a year ago, allowed two hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Josh Phegley was 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs for Oakland.

Arizona’s Robbie Ray allowed two runs on two hits, including Phegley’s RBI double, in his initial spring start. The left-hander walked two with no strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks acquired Ray in an offseason trade with Detroit. Graveman came to the A’s as part of the deal that sent Josh Donaldson to Toronto.
