Arkadelphia restaurant celebrates milestone

-

Diners in Arkadelphia are buzzing about the anniversary of a local mainstay.

Honeycomb Restaurant, Bakery and Catering will celebrate its 20th anniversary this Monday through Friday. The restaurant, a part of Group Living Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides normalization skills and living assistance to adults with developmental disabilities, opened in 1995 as a social business to provide jobs and training for its clients. Money spent at Honeycomb helps Group Living clients become tax-paying, responsible and independent residents of the community, according to Group Living’s website.

Each day, Honeycomb serves lunch specials such as spaghetti with meat sauce, chicken, broccoli and rice casserole, ham quiche, taco salad and more. Daily specials can be found on Honeycomb’s Facebook page and Group Living’s official website,

www.groupliving.org.

“For 20 years we struggled to find ways to integrate the folks we serve into the community,” said Jane Lucas, executive director. “When we opened the doors of the Honeycomb in 1995, the community came to us and we have been a gathering place for Arkadelphia ever since. We appreciate the strong support we have enjoyed from the community over the years.”

Group Living also runs the Beehive Resale Store. The store, which operates on tax-deductible donations from the public, teaches Group Living clients good work habits, including keeping a schedule, following directions, reporting to work on time, getting along with co-workers and working in the midst of distraction. Employees learn a variety of skills related to operating a retail store. The Beehive accepts donations during store hours, and pickups and deliveries are available for Arkadelphia residents at no charge.
